After a fair amount of regression over the past few seasons, some questions were raised with what kind of role he would play on the Braves this season, although it appears that manager Fredi Gonzalez values his presence even if he isn't performing. While Gonzalez made it clear that he isn't simply handing a roster spot to the veteran outfielder, it's nice to know that even if he isn't given a starting role, there's a good chance that he'll stick around the major league club a little while longer.

Bourn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles, Paul Hoynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group reports. Bourn's absence is likely related to the left-handed Wei-Yin Chen on the mound for the Orioles. The veteran center fielder has struggled at the dish this season, batting just .234 with no home runs, 14 RBI, 21 runs and only three stolen bases. Michael Brantley will start in center field in his place, while Mike Aviles will enter in left field.

Bourn has been suspended one game for making contact with an umpire during Tuesday's game. Bourn will appeal the suspension and will play Thursday. With Bourn set to appeal the ban, he'll remain in the lineup Thursday, but he should be considered day-to-day beyond that until Major League Baseball announces a decision with regard to his appeal.

Bourn is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Bourn will get the day off with left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada on the hill for Chicago. Taking his place in center field will be Michael Brantley, who is flanked by Brandon Moss (right) and Mike Aviles (left) in the starting outfield.

Bourn is not in the lineup Thursday against the Mariners, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. Bourn will be held out of the starting lineup for the second time in the last three games, with both rest days coming when a left-hander has taken the hill for the opposing team. Manager Terry Francona will use an outfield composed of Ryan Raburn (left), Michael Brantley (center) and Brandon Moss (right) for the Thursday afternoon contest.
