While his HR/FB rate is inflated at over 20 percent, he should continue to play close to every day and he has the green light on the basepaths.

After three disappointing seasons since his heyday in Tampa Bay, Upton is now on pace for the first 30-30 season of his career.

Upton went 1-for-5 with a solo homer, his 14th, in Thursday's 6-0 victory over the Dodgers.

The veteran outfielder provided returning Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu with a rude welcome back from his extended DL stint, blasting a 411-foot shoot to right center to lead off the game. It was the second homer of July for Upton, and his fifth overall in the last 11 contests. Although he's struck out at least once in eight straight games, Upton is slashing a solid .260/.308/.439 on the season, with 26 extra-base hits (10 doubles, two triples, 14 homers), 41 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

Upton will start in center field and bat leadoff Tuesday against the Orioles.

With Travis Jankowski on the bench against right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez, Upton will move up for his first start atop the order this season. Upton has steadily progressed at the plate throughout the season, and has now raised his average 14 points since June 1. He's also tallied 15 RBI in June, his best monthly total in that category this season.

Upton went 3-for-3 with a solo homer, two RBI and two runs in a 6-3 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday.

He now has three homers with five RBI in the last week. Maybe this recent streak and the three hits Wednesday will officially get him to break out of his slump. Even including those three base hits, Upton is slashing .163/.176/.306 in June.

Upton hit a solo home run in a 2-for-4 game in Monday's loss to the Marlins.

Upton struggled mightily in his first 10 games of June, with just a .146/.163/.220 batting line and one extra-base hit, a home run. Despite Monday's breakout, the slump has still pushed his batting line down to .240/.295/.393. But with eight home runs, Upton is now on pace for 20 this season, an encouraging power show from a player who hasn't reached 20 since 2012, his last season with Tampa Bay.
