Matt Lindstrom (oblique) hopes to resume throwing this week. The veteran right-hander is taking things cautiously as to avoid further injury, as he suffered a setback while trying to rush back initially. While it shouldn't impact his availability for the start of the regular season, it may not give him enough time to overthrow Nate Jones in the battle to become the team's closer.

Matt Lindstrom will rest for a few days after aggravating his oblique injury earlier this week. Lindstrom first suffered the injury last week. Oblique injuries are known to sideline players for weeks at a time, so the White Sox aren't going to take any chances at this point.

Matt Lindstrom (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday in White Sox camp. Lindstrom needed a couple days of rest to nurse a strained oblique. He is competing with Nate Jones for Chicago's opening at closer. Jones is probably the favorite.

Matt Lindstrom (oblique) threw on flat ground with no issues Sunday. It's not clear when he'll be cleared to throw off a mound, but it should be soon. Linstrom has been nursing a mild oblique strain the last few days, but it's not a long-term concern.

Matt Lindstrom declared Saturday that he had "zero concern" about his strained oblique. The veteran reliever understands that the team is proceeding with caution even though it's a minor concern. He remains optimistic though, and plans on returning to workouts as early as Sunday. He's competing with Nate Jones to open the season as the team's closer, and with his prior experience in the role could be the favorite at this point.

Matt Lindstrom was diagnosed with a mild oblique strain and is expected to resume throwing on Saturday. The veteran right-hander was held out of workouts as a precautionary measure on Friday, but believes he'll have no problem getting back on the mound on Saturday. He's vying for the team's closer role this spring, and could be featured in that capacity in the beginning of the season in an effort to drive up his trade value.

Matt Lindstrom was scratched from a scheduled appearance Friday due to a sore oblique. It's not clear at this point how severe the strain is, but the White Sox figure to take it easy with him for a while. Lindstrom is in competition for the closer job this spring but is most likely to be used in a setup role if he's healthy.

White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper noted Sunday that Matt Lindstrom, Nate Jones and Daniel Webb were the three most likely candidates to serve as the team's closer. Cooper was extremely impressed with Lindstrom's bullpen session on Sunday, noting specifically how well the ball came out of his hand and the life on it. While Jones is the most talented of the bunch, it wouldn't be surprising to see Lindstrom begin the season with the ninth-inning role to build up his value before flipping him in a trade mid-season.

White Sox exercised RHP Matt Lindstrom's $4 million club option for the 2014 season. It was that or pay him a $500,000 buyout and let him walk. Thornton posted a 3.12 ERA in 60 2/3 innings of relief this season for Chicago. The 33-year-old righty will serve as a setup man for the Pale Hose again in 2014.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Matt Lindstrom has cleared waivers. Lindstrom is the kind of guy that probably stands a pretty decent chance at being moved this month. He's making just $2.8 million this season and holds a 3.47 ERA for the White Sox (though he's only struck out 33 over 46 2/3 frames). Someone might view him as an upgrade for a sixth/seventh inning role.
