Garza will open the season on the 10-day DL due to a strained right groin.
EDGE Analysis
This comes as a little bit of a surprise, as Garza was expected to pitch Milwaukee's exhibition game on Friday. The 33-year-old struggled to a 8.59 ERA and 2.18 WHIP through 14.2 innings this spring. He is also coming off his two worst seasons as a major leaguer, posting a combined 5.18 ERA over 250.1 innings pitched with the Brewers. Still, he is due $12.5 million in 2017, so it's likely we'll see him back in Milwaukee's rotation once he is healthy again.

Garza owns a 6.57 ERA, 2.11 WHIP, and 5:6 K:BB in 12.1 innings over five appearances this spring.
EDGE Analysis
Garza has hardly had a productive spring, but he is due $12.5 million in 2017, so he still has a shot to break camp with a spot in the starting rotation. He is coming off his best outing of the spring, one in which he gave up just one earned run over 3.2 innings, but he did allow the opponent to average over two baserunners per inning for the fourth straight outing.

Garza (6-8) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six innings to beat the Rangers on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Garza's performance looks particularly good in context, against one of the American League's best lineups in one of the majors' toughest parks for pitchers. He has allowed a solid 2.97 ERA with a 31:10 K:BB over 33.1 innings in his last six starts and is generating some solid momentum heading into 2017.

Garza (5-8) allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts over just four innings in a loss Tuesday to the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Garza had allowed just three earned runs in his past four starts, good for a 1.16 ERA, but that was somewhat deceptive. He had allowed 12 runs total including four home runs in those four starts. The PIrates didn't homer off Garza Tuesday night, but they did manage three doubles among their eight hits. Garza has a poor 67:35 K:BB and his ERA is now up to 4.52.

Garza (5-7) allowed five runs, although only one earned, on eight hits and three strikeouts over five innings against the Reds on Tuesday, taking the loss.
EDGE Analysis
Garza's night started off shaky as he gave up a first-inning homer to Joey Votto. His troubles continued in the third, although it wasn't really his fault, as the Reds committed a pair of errors, leading to a four-run inning. Unfortunately the Brewers' defensive struggles Tuesday are nothing new, as they lead the majors in errors in 2016 with 122. Garza has now gone four straight starts allowing no more than one earned run, although the eight hits were more than he'd allowed the previous two starts combined. His ERA sits at 4.22 despite a 1.48 WHIP.

Garza held the Cubs to a single run on three hits and two walks over six innings Wednesday. He struck out six and received no decision.
EDGE Analysis
The Brewers actually went on to beat their first-place division opponents, but Garza left with the game tied thanks to a solo homer by Anthony Rizzo with two outs in the sixth inning. Garza's turned in two sparkling outings in a row against strong opposition in the Cards and Cubs, but his record has been marked by brutal inconsistency, so you can't expect him to keep it up. He'll draw another division opponent in the Reds on Tuesday.

Garza (5-6) struck out eight while holding St. Louis to a single run on three hits and two walks over seven innings in Thursday's 3-1 victory.
EDGE Analysis
He must relish the role of spoiler, as Garza's longest start of the year -- and arguably his best one -- came against the division-rival Cardinals, who are in the midst of a race for a wild-card spot. In the three starts preceding this outing, Garza had allowed 19 hits and 14 runs (eight earned) over 14 innings, so this was quite the unexpected turnaround. But he's posted his two best strikeout totals of the year in his last two starts, so maybe Garza's found something of his old stuff. Don't bet the farm on it, though.

Garza was knocked around in Sunday's no-decision versus the Mariners, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk across just 3.2 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The entirety of the damage against Garza was done in the third and fourth innings, when nine hits and an error of his own ran his pitch count up to 93 before he could venture any further. Garza had a sharp 3.45 ERA over his previous five starts, but Sunday's poor outing inflated his season mark back up to 5.27. He will look to right the ship Friday against the Pirates.

Garza (4-5) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
After going through a rough patch of five starts in late June through mid-July, Garza has allowed two or fewer earned runs in three of his last four starts to lower an ERA that once was at 5.94 all the way down to 4.87. He was a decent fantasy option as late as 2014, but his overall performance has been poor in each of the last two seasons.

Garza allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two batters over six innings in a win over the Braves on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was spotted an early lead and cruised to a relatively easy victory, evening his record at 4-4, although it wasn't a dominant outing by any stretch as he walked more batters than he struck out. Thursday's performance marked Garza's third quality start in his last four outings, but he owns a less-than-stellar 34:22 K:BB in 59.2 innings this year and will face his toughest test yet next week with a matchup against the Cubs in Chicago on tap.
