Cain exited Friday's game in the second inning with an undisclosed injury, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Cain was attempting to finish the second inning when he was forced to leave. He threw a pitch then simply turned to the dugout and shook his head. He was replaced by Albert Suarez. Cain had only given up one hit in 1.2 innings pitched. Expect an update when more information is made available.

Cain (1-5) allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Cubs.

EDGE Analysis

Cain only allowed a solo homer to Kris Bryant, and the offense picked him up by scoring five runs before his departure. After a brutal start to the season, he's now held opponents to four runs in his last 21 innings over three starts to lower his ERA to 5.37. He'll make his next start Friday at the Rockies.

The veteran put forth one of his best outings of the season Sunday, limiting a tough Diamondbacks lineup to just one extra-base hit and lowering his ERA nearly a full run to 5.87. After a disastrous run lasting five starts in which Cain allowed 25 earned runs in exactly 25 innings, he has responded with a pair of quality starts and appears to be turning things around. He will face another tough challenge Saturday versus the Cubs.

Cain was brilliant Tuesday, tossing eight innings of two-run ball while striking out seven in the loss to the Blue Jays.

EDGE Analysis

This was a vintage performance for Cain, as he was dominant on the mound but also received no run support whatsoever. Anyone who had the foresight to start him against the powerful Jays lineup deserves every bit of this start. Cain was aided by a cold and windy night, surrendering a home run but narrowly escaping a couple others that would have been homers in other ballparks. This outing brought Cain's ERA down to 6.69, so no one is rushing to the waiver wire to grab him. We would need to see a string of strong performances before thinking of Cain as anything more than a streamer in soft home matchups in NL-only leagues.

EDGE Analysis

Apparently, the Rockies brought a slice of Coors Field with them to San Francisco, as both offenses were raking like we usually only see in Colorado. Of course, facing Cain is kind of like hitting at Coors, as the league has put up a ridiculous 44 hits and 27 earned runs on Cain in 31 innings spanning his first six starts of the year. There's essentially no fantasy format where he can be trusted at this point in his career; the best way to make use of Cain is by stacking hitters against him in DFS.

Cain (0-3) surrendered seven hits, six earned runs and a walk over six innings in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Mets. He struck out five.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran righty's struggles continued, and he's now surrendered 10 earned runs over his last 11.2 innings of work. Cain gave up multiple homers for the first time this season, while also setting a new high-water mark in pitch count (108). He continues to give up fly balls at an elevated rate, which has him constantly flirting with disaster when on the mound. The 31-year-old will try once more for his first victory of the season in his Thursday start versus the Rockies.

Cain left the game with a two-run deficit, but the offense picked him up with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take him off the hook for a possible loss. After recording a quality start in his first outing, he's now allowed 13 runs in 15 innings over his last three appearances to raise his ERA to 6.43.

Cain (0-2) gave up three earned runs on five hits over 4.2 innings pitched, with four walks and only two strikeouts in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the Diamondbacks.

EDGE Analysis

Cain failed to get out of fifth inning for the second straight start, although control problems were to blame this time after he simply got spanked around at Coors Field in his previous outing. The once-excellent veteran owns a 4-13 record since the start of the 2014 campaign, as injuries have led to a massive drop-off in effectiveness. He's done a poor job of eating innings as a bottom-of-the-rotation arm early on, but Sunday's matchup with the Marlins will offer a chance to right the ship.

EDGE Analysis

This was an interesting start to analyze. Cain got off to a great start by shutting down the Rockies the first time through the order. He looked like the "old Cain" and was using his slider effectively and even touched 93 MPH on the gun with his fastball. Things unraveled in the fifth when he gave up a solo-shot to Gerardo Parra, following that up with a couple of weak singles, a double and walk before being pulled from the game. He was on the hook for the stranded runners and reliever Chris Heston wasn't able to prevent them from scoring. So while this start looks poor on paper, there were certainly some positives to take away. His 10:2 K:BB ratio in 10.2 innings looks closer to his All-Star form rather than the broken down version we have seen over the past couple of seasons. Cain is off the radar in standard leagues right now, but his next start at home against Arizona could be appealing for those in deeper leagues.

After seeing his ERA and WHIP steadily climb each season since 2013, the 31-year-old hurler will look to get his career back on track in 2016. His next start will be Thursday at the Rockies.
