Bumgarner (6-15) took the loss Friday versus the Padres. He allowed five runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out two over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Four of the five runs on Bumgarner's line came via the home run. Brandon Drury took him deep twice and Austin Nola added a solo shot to account for most of the damage. Bumgarner has lost six of his last nine starts since his last win, yielding 42 earned runs in 48.1 innings in that span. The southpaw's ERA is up to 5.01 with a career-worst 1.48 WHIP and 107:48 K:BB through 152.2 innings across 29 starts. He's lined up for a brutally difficult road start versus the Dodgers next week.

Bumgarner (6-14) took the loss against Colorado on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner was in vintage form through five frames, keeping the Rockies off the scoreboard while allowing just two hits. However, things turned south for the veteran lefty in the sixth, as he allowed the first five hitters he faced to reach base on a walk, three doubles and a massive C.J. Cron three-run home run. Bumgarner was allowed to fight through the inning and retired three of the final four batters he faced, but the damage was enough to send him to his 14th loss. That is second-worst in the majors and is the most losses he has ever taken in a single campaign.

Bumgarner said he focused on staying out of the middle of the zone during his most recent outing Saturday against the Brewers, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner entered the outing on a terrible run, giving up 27 runs on 44 hits (five HR) in 26.1 innings over his previous five starts. The left-hander tried multiple solutions to work out of the slump and finally landed on pitching to the edges of the zone. "I needed to take a step back, I guess, and not be so aggressive in the zone," he said. "After the last few, I don't know if 'careful' is the right word, but making my pitches." Bumgarner fell behind in counts more than we would have liked, but he felt the change was necessary after getting hit so hard during the month of August.

Bumgarner allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against Milwaukee on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
This was by no means vintage Bumgarner, but the outing was a marked improvement for the veteran hurler after he allowed four or more earned runs in each of his previous six starts. This was only the second time in his past eight outings during which the southpaw didn't allow a long ball. Bumgarner still holds an ugly 4.83 ERA on the campaign, which is fifth-worst among qualified starters.

Bumgarner allowed seven runs on 11 hits and no walks while striking out two batters over 3.2 innings against Philadelphia on Monday, but he didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner's recent struggles continued in a big way against the Phillies, as he allowed seven runs before being booed as he walked off the mound with two outs in the fourth inning. The veteran southpaw served up only one home run, but he gave up three doubles and also hit a batter. The only positive for him was that Arizona stormed back to score the game's final 13 runs and take home the win. Over five starts in August, Bumgarner posted a 9.23 ERA and 1.94 WHIP while going 0-3.

Bumgarner and Arizona pitching coach Brent Strom are still searching for a way out of the left-hander's recent slump, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner said they've been "throwing a bunch of (expletive) against the wall trying to see what sticks," as he and Strom try to reverse a recent trend in which the pitcher's ERA is 7.53 over his last five starts (28.2 IP). The pitching coach hinted at toying with the idea of significant changes to Bumgarner's delivery, but they landed on stylistic tweaks, where the lefty gets more "tempo and rhythm and timing" between his upper and lower halves. It sounds like the team's at a loss to explain the issues plaguing Bumgarner heading into his next start Monday against the Phillies.

Bumgarner will start Monday against the Phillies, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner's turn through the Diamondbacks' rotation was skipped for the weekend series against the White Sox, but he'll start the series opener against the Phillies after working on some tweaks with pitching coach Brent Strom. Over his last five starts, Bumgarner has posted a 7.53 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 28.2 innings.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Bumgarner won't make his scheduled start this weekend against the White Sox, and he'll instead work on some tweaks with pitching coach Brent Strom before re-entering the rotation during the three-game series against the Phillies that begins Monday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner has lost four of his past five outings and has a 7.53 ERA and 19:10 K:BB across 28.2 innings during that stretch, and he'll receive some extra time between starts in an attempt to right the ship. The veteran left-hander had a solid first half but has struggled since the All-Star break, and he now has a 4.53 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 25 starts this year.

Bumgarner (6-13) took the loss during Saturday's 16-7 defeat at the hands of the Cardinals, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner was provided two leads but gave both back and departed with one on and one out in the sixth with the game tied at 4-4. Reliever Noe Ramirez allowed inherited runner Tommy Edman to score, putting Bumgarner in line for his third straight loss. During the recent poor streak, the 33-year-old has surrendered 26 total runs (24 earned) across 28.2 innings and has incurred four losses in five turns. Bumgarner carries a 4.53 ERA and 1.43 WHIP into his next start, scheduled to come next weekend against the White Sox.

Bumgarner (6-12) took the loss against San Francisco on Monday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Bumgarner will forever be a part of Giants lore due to his epic postseason performances and three World Series rings with the club, but his former team took no mercy on him Monday. The southpaw was knocked around for four extra-base hits (three doubles, a homer) and gave up his most earned runs in an appearance this season. Bumgarner has taken the loss in three of his past four outings, posting a 7.33 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB in 23.1 innings over that stretch.
