Martin said Friday that he has made a full recovery from the bacterial infection that forced his emergency hospitalization Aug. 7, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martin required medical attention after developing the life-threatening illness following his final plate appearance of the Indians' game against the Twins that day, noting that he "blacked out" before waking up in the hospital. The infection produced intense pain and resulted in Martin being shut down for the rest of the 2018 campaign, but after months of rest, the 30-year-old has enjoyed an otherwise normal offseason and feels ready to resume his career this spring. After re-signing with the Tribe on a one-year, $3 million deal shortly after the past season ended, Martin should get the opportunity to vie for a starting role in an unsettled Cleveland outfield.

Martin (illness) was officially cleared for regular offseason strength training and conditioning Tuesday, Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martin suffered a major health scare in August and he spent time in the hospital while battling a life-threatening illness. Although he was shut down for the remainder of the 2018 season a few months ago, he was finally cleared to take part in normal offseason activities and will be at 100 percent for the start of spring training. Martin is in line to serve as Cleveland's starting center fielder for the 2019 campaign after inking a one-year deal at the end of October.

Martin (illness) signed a non-guaranteed one-year, $3 million contract for 2019 with Cleveland on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
This deal will avoid arbitration for Martin after the outfielder was sidelined for the last seven weeks of the season due to a serious bacterial infection that caused him to spend some time in the hospital. That ailment occurred just a week after the Indians traded for Martin from Detroit, so he only played in 84 games in 2018. He wound up slashing .255/.323/.425 with 11 home runs, 33 RBI and seven stolen bases, and will have a chance to lock down the starting spot in center field come spring training.

Manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that Martin (illness) will not play again this season. He added that Martin is recovering just fine but the doctors want him to concentrate on returning to full health instead of ramping up baseball activity, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martin was recently released from the hospital after fighting a life-threatening bacterial infection. Clearly his return to full health is more important than baseball, so the organization doesn't want to take any chances with Martin. He should be completely operational for spring training in 2019.

Martin (illness) was released from the hospital Sunday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic Cleveland reports.
EDGE Analysis
Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti relayed that there isn't a timeline for Martin to return to baseball activities, but the fact that the outfielder is no longer hospitalized is welcome news after he was said to be dealing with a life-threatening bacterial infection. Because of the toll the infection took on his body, Martin could require several weeks to get back into playing shape, which might make it difficult for him to return to the field in 2018.

Martin is in stable condition while battling a serious bacterial infection but the Indians have not considered a timeline for his return to baseball activities.
EDGE Analysis
Martin's condition was at one point considered life-threatening but he has made considerable progress and is expected to make a full recovery. Given the severity of the issue and the slow rate at which he's expected to continue to progress, however, it doesn't appear that the Indians plan on him being able to return this season.

Martin is dealing with a serious bacterial infection, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The illness was described as "life-threatening" and apparently attacked his internal organs. Fortunately, Martin is currently in stable condition and is improving, though the Indians added that his "progress will be measured in weeks, not days." More should be known as Martin continues to recover.

The Indians placed Martin (illness) on the 10-day disabled list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Cleveland officially listed a "non-baseball condition" as the reason for Martin's placement on the DL, with initial reports Wednesday suggesting that the outfielder was dealing with an upset stomach. Given the Tribe's decision to move him to the DL a day later, it seems Martin may be dealing with something more significant. Expect the team to issue an update on the extent of Martin's setback in the coming days, which should provide clarity on whether he'll be ready to return to the big club when first eligible Aug. 18. Greg Allen was recalled from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move.

Martin, who is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Twins, is dealing with an illness, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It sounds like Martin is dealing with an upset stomach, so he will get the day off. Brandon Guyer will get a look in center field in his stead, hitting ninth.

Martin will sit for the second day in a row Wednesday against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Martin has sat for three of the first seven games since being traded to Cleveland at the deadline. In the first two, which both came against the left-handed Adalberto Mejia, Rajai Davis got the start in center. This time, Martin will sit against the right-handed Jake Odorizzi, with Brandon Guyer getting the call.
