Siegrist got the call in the ninth inning Thursday against the Angels after Seth Maness and regular closer Trevor Rosenthal combined to give up three runs, and he recorded the last two outs (one via strikeout) for his first save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Maness opened the ninth by giving up two hits and then a homer while recording one hard out, then Rosenthal came in and walked the bases loaded. Manager Mike Matheny had seen enough, so on came Siegrist, and it took him just nine pitches to get a whiff and a foul out to end things. As usual, he's sparkled in a setup role for St. Louis, striking out 21 with a 0.89 WHIP in 14.2 innings, and with Rosenthal sitting on a gross 1.64 WHIP, it's becoming likelier that Siegrist will see more save chances down the line.

Siegrist struck out three batters in a scoreless inning of work against the Pirates on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Aside from an outing where he gave up three earned runs while failing to record an out, Siegrist has been marvelous, giving up only one earned run over 13 innings. The 26-year-old's numbers tell the tale as he boasts a 2.77 ERA and 1.00 WHIP along with a healthy 13.85 K/9 ratio. He's proving again in 2016 why he is one of St. Louis' most reliable arms out of the bullpen.

Siegrist has pitched a scoreless four innings so far this spring, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Siegrist figures to be the Cardinals primary lefty in late-inning relief. After a down 2014 Siegrist bounced back with a league-leading 81 appearances for the Cardinals in 2015, posting a 2.17 ERA in 74.2 innings pitched. The Cardinals have added some depth to their bullpen so that should help bring down Siegrist's usage some, but he still figures to be a great value in fantasy leagues that count holds.

Siegrist picked up his sixth save of the year, pitching a scoreless ninth inning in a 7-5 win over the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
With Trevor Rosenthal out to witness the birth of his baby girl, Siegrist got another chance at a save after losing the game against the Giants on Friday, and he didn't disappoint, striking out Ehire Adrianza and pinch-hitter Andrew Susac before forcing a groundout from Nori Aoki to end the game. He's now whittled his ERA down to 1.81, but with Rosenthal set to return Monday, Siegrist will once again be relegated to setup man duties.

Siegrist (5-1) took the loss Friday, allowing two walks and two hits on one run in a 5-4 loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
For those of you who thought you'd be picking up some sneaky saves this weekend with Siegrist, say goodbye to your WHIP. This was one of his worst outings of the season as he was set to take over closer duties while Trevor Rosenthal witnesses the birth of his child. Siegrist still holds a 1.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 64 appearances and remains one of the best setup men in baseball.

Siegrist picked up his fourth save of the year Sunday, throwing a perfect ninth inning in a 3-1 victory over the Padres. With Trevor Rosenthal unavailable after pitching in each of the first three games of the series, Siegrist stepped in for his first save chance since June 18. He retired the side in order on 14 pitches, lowering his ERA to 1.45. While he will likely continue to see only sporadic save opportunities so long as Rosenthal is healthy, Siegrist has provided excellent ratios and he currently ranks fourth in the NL in holds with 14.

Siegrist recorded the save Tuesday with a scoreless ninth inning against the Twins. Trevor Rosenthal (forearm) was unavailable for the second straight day Tuesday, and it's unclear if he'll be ready to return for Wednesday's matchup. Assuming the Cards don't want to rest Siegrist after he pitched on back-to-back days Monday and Tuesday, he's the leading candidate to take the ball for a save situation Wednesday if Rosenthal remains shut down.

Siegrist picked up his second save Monday against Minnesota with closer Trevor Rosenthal on the shelf due to arm tightness. Siegrist struck out a batter and now has a 1.57 ERA and 40 strikeouts against just 10 walks in 28.2 innings. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said the club just needed to "give [Rosenthal] a day," so the arrangement is likely temporary, but Siegrist looks like the first option to close if needed.

Siegrist struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief Sunday against the Dodgers en route to earning his third win of the season. The 25-year-old has been electric out of the bullpen for the Cardinals this season, with a 12.4 K/9 and a 1.82 ERA to go along with his perfect 3-0 record. Siegrist is unlikely to see many save opportunities with Trevor Rosenthal in the picture, but still offers appealing ratios and strikeout totals in relief.

Siegrist picked up his 10th hold of the season, getting two eighth inning outs in the win over Los Angeles Friday. Siegrist has seemingly taken over as the Cardinals go-to eighth inning guy with Jordan Walden on the disabled list. He's posted a 1.90 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 23.2 innings this season. He should keep racking up holds and the occasional save, giving him solid value in deeper leagues that count holds.
