Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) will make his Cactus League debut on Sunday. He'll draw the starting assignment against a split-squad Padres team. He's progressing nicely in his recovery from last July's surgery, and looks to be on track to be a part of the Opening Day rotation.

Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) pitched two innings in an intrasquad game Tuesday. Beckett continues to have no after effects from last July's thoracic outlet surgery. While it's possible some numbness in his fingers can crop again at any time, for the moment he looks on track to be ready for Opening Day. Beckett expects to pitch in a Cactus League game over the weekend.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) looked "free and easy" while throwing live batting practice Wednesday. "I wouldn't have known that he'd had anything done last year," Mattingly said. "It looks free and easy. It's not like he's laboring. His tempo is good." Beckett will open the season as the Dodgers' No. 5 starter as long as he's healthy, and it appears he's on track. Paul Maholm is around as insurance in case Beckett suffers a setback.

Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday with no issues. Beckett underwent thoracic outlet surgery last July but enters camp with no limitations. "I'm not tentative," Beckett said. "I'm going to throw as hard as I can and see what happens. Right now, I feel great. I'll throw the ball until I blow out and I'm hoping that's not for a few more years." As long as he doesn't have a setback, Beckett is expected to open the season as the Dodgers' No. 5 starter.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated Sunday that Josh Beckett will be the club's fifth starter as long as he's healthy. The Dodgers signed Paul Maholm over the weekend, but he's viewed mainly as protection in case Beckett has a hiccup in his recovery from thoracic outlet surgery. As it stands right now, the club is expecting Beckett to have a normal spring training following last July's operation. If Beckett doesn't encounter any issues, Maholm will be used in long relief.

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Tuesday that Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) is expected to have a normal spring training. Beckett was limited to just eight starts this past season prior to undergoing surgery. Colletti says he has a "chance" to open the season in the Dodgers' starting rotation, though setbacks are always possible. A possible addition of Masahiro Tanaka could also make Beckett the odd man out, at least initially.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Josh Beckett has been progressing well from thoracic outlet surgery. Beckett's surgery to relieve a nerve impingement in his right shoulder took place in July. Mattingly said Beckett has begun throwing a football as part of his workouts. He'll switch to a baseball soon enough. Beckett is expected to be fully healthy by the start of spring training.

Josh Beckett (shoulder) will resume a throwing program next week. Beckett has been shut down since undergoing shoulder surgery in early July and is expected to need 3-5 months of rehab time. He remains on track to be 100 percent for spring training next year.
