Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Marlins anticipate Jose Fernandez needing season-ending elbow surgery. It had been trending that direction, but this is the first we've heard of a Marlins source conceding that Tommy John surgery is a likely outcome. Fernandez has already undergone a pair of MRIs and a decision about his status should be made soon. The stud young right-hander has put up a 2.44 ERA and 70/13 K/BB ratio in 51 2/3 innings this season.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Jose Fernandez (elbow) recently underwent a second MRI. The fact that he's already getting a second opinion likely means that the first one didn't go well. As Rosenthal's source noted, "This isn't promising." Fernandez was placed on the DL Monday with what's being called for now a right elbow sprain, but it's sure sounding like Tommy John surgery is a high possibility. The Marlins haven't announced who will replace Hernandez in the rotation, but it's likely to be Kevin Slowey or Brad Hand for now. Top prospect Andrew Heaney could also be an option before long.

Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Jose Fernandez's injury is arm related. The Marlins are expected to address Fernandez's situation shortly, but we know so far that he's expected to undergo an MRI on his pitching arm and he will be placed on the disabled list regardless of the findings. Obviously, fantasy owners and the Marlins are holding their breath in hopes that the injury isn't a serious one.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Jose Fernandez is expected to be placed on the disabled list. No word yet on the exact nature of the injury, but Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that he was undergoing an MRI in Los Angeles. Fernandez was reportedly sick during his most recent outing on Friday, where he gave up six runs (five earned) in five-plus innings in a loss to the Padres. The 21-year-old owns a 2.44 ERA and 70/13 K/BB ratio in 51 2/3 innings this season.

Jose Fernandez was throwing up before his rough start Friday night against the Padres. San Diego lit him up for six runs -- five earned -- in five-plus innings. Fernandez has a tough matchup next week at Dodger Stadium, but he should be able to bounce back. The 21-year-old right-hander boasts a 2.44 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 70/13 K/BB ratio in 51 2/3 total innings this season.

Jose Fernandez yielded three runs -- two earned -- in seven innings Saturday in a no-decision versus the Dodgers. Fernandez struck out 10 batters but was otherwise a bit shaky, surrendering four walks and five hits. He still owns a sparkling 1.74 ERA and 0.90 WHIP on the year, and should return to dominance next time out against the Giants.

Jose Fernandez dominated the Braves for the second time in a week Tuesday, allowing just two hits while striking out eight over eight shutout innings in the Marlins' 9-0 win. The Braves are tired of this movie. Fernandez has now thrown 16 scoreless innings, striking out 22 while allowing just five hits and two walks in his last two starts, both against Atlanta. He hasn't been much nicer to the rest of the competition, as he's now 4-1 with a 1.59 ERA and 55/8 K/BB ratio over 39 2/3 innings. Fernandez will set his sights on the Dodgers on Sunday.

Jose Fernandez struck out 14 batters over eight scoreless innings in the Marlins' 1-0 victory over the Braves on Tuesday. Fernandez was straight dealing in the outing, giving up just three singles and no walks over his eight shutout innings. Of his victims, Fernandez fanned Justin Upton, Dan Uggla and Evan Gattis three times apiece while getting Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman twice each. The win moved him to 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA and 0.92 WHIP this April. He'll have a shot at this same Braves lineup when the teams meet again on Tuesday.
