Fernandez's next scheduled start will come Thursday against the Reds, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Marlins initially had Fernandez in line to take the hill for Friday's series opener against the Pirates, but the placement of starter Adam Conley (finger) on the DL forced the team to readjust its rotation. Fernandez probably gets a bit of an upgrade in matchup by taking on the last-place Reds rather than a more competitive Pirates squad, but the outing will still come on the road, where the Marlins ace hasn't been nearly as dominant this season. Over 55 innings on the road, Fernandez has a 3.93 ERA.

Fernandez said that the next start he will be missing will be his final start skipped this season, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Marlins have been limited innings for Fernandez, but it looks like they are ready to take the training wheels off for the stretch run of the season. Currently the Marlins are the second wild card team, so Fernandez making all of his starts is crucial for the Marlins chances of making the playoffs. Fernandez will make his next start Monday or Tuesday for Miami.

Fernandez will not make a second start this week, presumably being pushed back to Monday or Tuesday in Cincinnati, the Miami Herald's Andre Fernandez reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Marlins will take advantage of Thursday's off day to move Tom Koehler up to start Sunday, which will allow them to give their ace an extra day of rest. Fernandez has not been confirmed as Monday's starter against the Reds, and the Marlins could conceivably even push him to Tuesday and have David Phelps pitch on normal rest Monday, but unless they plan on skipping Fernandez altogether and calling up a starter from Triple-A, he should take the ball early next week.

Fernandez pitched well enough to win in a no-decision, allowing just one run over six innings against the Giants on Monday. He gave up six hits, walked two, and struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

The 24-year-old has been so good that the six strikeouts are actually the least he's registered since his final start of May. Fernandez has already set a career-high in strikeouts, his 198 strikeouts tying him with Max Scherzer for the league lead. He'll look to continue his impressive season when he takes the mound Sunday against the White Sox.

Fernandez (12-6) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks and struck out eight over six innings in a loss Tuesday to the Cubs.

EDGE Analysis

Fernandez was nasty, as he induced 21 swinging strikes in 103 pitches, but the Cubs singled him to death -- the only extra-base hit he allowed was a leadoff triple from Dexter Fowler to open the bottom of the first. Fernandez has now struck out at least seven batters in every start since June, a span in which he owns a ridiculous 96:14 K:BB over 64 innings.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reiterated Friday that Fernandez's innings are likely to be restricted over the final two months of the regular season.

EDGE Analysis

An innings limit for Fernandez has not been brought up at length for a while, but Morosi first reported in February that the Marlins would look to conserve Fernandez's innings with him coming off Tommy John surgery, and it's worth mentioning again given the team's expected trade for starters Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea. It's not clear exactly how the Marlins plan to cap Fernandez's innings -- and what the team's actual target is -- but he totaled 89.1 innings last year and has never thrown more than 172.2 innings in a season, which suggests it's unlikely he will reach the 200-inning mark. Fernandez sits at 125.2 innings through 20 starts in 2016.

Fernandez (12-5) gave up five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine over five innings in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

A pair of homers in the third inning and a two-run rally in the fifth ruined the electric righty's day, but he's still piling up the strikeouts at a nearly historic pace. With 184 whiffs in 125.2 innings, Fernandez is working on the third-highest strikeout rate by a starter in MLB history, not far behind Randy Johonson's 2001 and Pedro Martinez's 1999. He is, however, giving up hard contact at the highest rate of his career, so Fernandez is making a bit of a tradeoff in his quest for more whiffs. Other than the occasional dud like this one, though, it hasn't impacted his stats -- he still has a sterling 2.79 ERA.

Fernandez (12-4) allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out seven and walked two in seven innings during a victory over the Mets on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

The 23-year-old threw 78 of his 110 pitches for strikes, inducing 16 swing-and-misses. Fernandez now has at least seven strikeouts in eight straight outings, and he's only walked more than two in a start once during that time. Over his last three appearances, Fernandez is 2-0 with a 1.77 ERA, 29 strikeouts and four walks in 20.1 innings. He will look to keep it going in his next start Thursday versus the Phillies.

Fernandez took a no-decision on Monday, holding the Phillies to two runs in 6.1 innings. He allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out a whopping 14.

EDGE Analysis

Fernandez has been fantastic this season. Since May 1 the righty has allowed more than two runs in just three starts, and in that time he has struck out double-digit batters six times. He'll carry a 2.53 ERA and 1.01 WHIP into his start Saturday against the Mets.

Fernandez was charged with one unearned run on six hits over seven innings in a win over the Reds on Friday. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk.

EDGE Analysis

Taking advantage of a favorable matchup at home, Fernandez returned to form following a rare poor performance against Atlanta his last time out. The 23-year-old was excellent throughout the first half, ranking inside the top six in the NL in wins, strikeouts, ERA and WHIP. The question heading into the break is: how many innings does Fernandez have left after he tossed just 64.2 last year in his first season back from Tommy John surgery? Fernandez's agent, Scott Boras, and the team have discussed a limit, and while a firm cap was never disclosed, something in the 170-180 range seems likely.
