Lyles is not known as someone to rack up strikeouts, but he punched out a season-high nine batters Sunday, five in the first two innings. Randy Arozarena knocked a three-run homer to put the Rays on the board in the third and Lyles was removed in the fifth inning with one out and two on. Since the beginning of July, the 31-year-old has a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 44:17 K:BB while allowing nine homers in 50 innings across nine starts. EDGE Analysis
It was far from a dominant performance by the veteran right-hander, but Lyles got staked to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never let Toronto get back in the game. He's won three straight starts and five of six decisions since the beginning of July, posting a 3.22 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB through 44.2 innings over that stretch.

Lyles (6-8) took the loss Sunday in Tampa Bay, allowing six runs on six hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out five in 2.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
The Rays got to Lyles early and often Sunday with the big blows being Randy Arozarena's two-run homer in the first and Brett Phillips' three-run, two-out blast in the fifth. Five of the six hits he allowed went for extra bases and nine of the 16 batters he faced reached safely. The veteran had been quite effective in his five starts before Sunday's disappointing outing, throwing at least six innings in each start and compiling a 2.76 ERA in 32.2 innings. Despite Sunday's short start, with 107.2 innings pitched, Lyles has proven to be an inning-eater, ranking 11th in the American League in innings and pitching at least five innings in 16 of his 19 starts.

The 31-year-old has now completed seven innings or allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last five turns, accumulating a 2.76 ERA in 32.2 innings. Lyles (5-7) allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Lyles threw six shutout innings, but he lost the scoreless effort when he allowed a leadoff double in the seventh frame prior to being pulled. Overall, Lyles has maintained a 4.50 ERA and 81:31 K:BB across 98 innings on the season.
