Johnson was charged with his first blown save and first loss of the season after giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out one over 1.1 innings Saturday against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
It was a rough night for the veteran after he failed to hold one run leads in both the 10th and 11th innings. His defense didn't do him any favors, as Jefry Marte's throwing error in the 10th allowed the tying run to score, effectively extending the game further into Seattle night. While the first blown save wasn't entirely his fault, there were no excuses for the two runs he allowed the Mariners to score to walk things off. The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher believes that Johnson has taken over the closer role for the Halos, but it's unclear if he will get another shot after Saturday's rough outing.

Johnson retired just one batter en route to his third hold of the season in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
With Keynan Middleton (elbow) being placed on the disabled list, manager Mike Scioscia turned to Cam Bedrosian to protect a two-run lead in the ninth, which he failed to do. The failed save attempt could lead to Jim Johnson -- who has experience as a closer -- potentially seeing opportunities going forward. The 34-year-old owns a 3.38 ERA through 16 innings, making him worth a speculative add for those hurting for saves.

Johnson struck out a batter over a clean inning in Wednesday's victory over the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson was brought in to bolster a relatively young Angels relief crew. Despite his experience closing, the veteran arm has been deployed in earlier innings behind the likes of Blake Parker, Cam Bedrosian and Keynan Middleton. Manager Mike Scioscia is notorious for shuffling his late-inning options, but Johnson appears to be nothing more than a middle reliever at this time.

The Angels are likely to enter the season with a closer committee, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Blake Parker ended the 2017 season as the Angels' closer and seems to be the team's best reliever, manager Mike Scioscia says he prefers to have a number of pitchers able to pitch the ninth inning. If a committee approach ends up being used, Johnson would likely be a part of it, as he has 176 career saves and put up a respectable 3.98 xFIP last year even though his 5.56 ERA was quite ugly. Even in a nominal committee, however, the best arms tend to end up with the majority of the saves, and for the Angels, that would be Parker, not Johnson. Johnson could be a viable target in deep leagues, but don't push his price up too far following this news.

Johnson was traded from the Braves to the Angels on Thursday in exchange for Justin Kelly.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson spent all of 2017 in the Braves' bullpen, converting 22 of his 31 save opportunities while compiling a 5.56 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 61:28 K:BB in 56.2 innings. He fell out of favor as the team's closer in August and posted an unsightly 9.88 ERA, 2.12 WHIP and 6.6 K/9 over the final two months of the season (13.2 innings), so he likely won't get a shot to reclaim his ninth-inning with Los Angeles. Still, he should hold a high-leverage role in the Angels' bullpen next season.

Johnson (Achilles) tossed 1.2 perfect innings across two appearances Sunday and Monday.
EDGE Analysis
A bout of Achilles tendinitis cost Johnson most of September, but he has recovered in time to make a few appearances before the end of the season. Johnson lost his grip on the closer role shortly after the All-Star break and has failed to get right in lower-leverage spots, posting an 11.12 ERA and 2.03 WHIP since Aug. 1. It's hard to imagine he will get the job back at any point in 2018.

Johnson didn't make the trip to Washington due to achilles tendinitis, but could be available for this weekend's series against the Mets, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson will get a little time off while dealing with this mild injury, which seems to have been plaguing him for a little time now since his last appearance came over a week ago. The right-hander has had a rough last month, sporting a 21.00 ERA and 3.33 WHIP over his last six innings (eight appearances) on the mound.

Johnson (6-3) took the loss Wednesday while blowing his ninth save of the season, entering the game in the eighth inning and getting tagged for four runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record an out in a 9-6 loss to the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever has fallen completely apart, getting scored upon in four straight appearances and seeing his ERA balloon from 3.86 to 5.69 in the process. Johnson hasn't recorded a save in over a month, and without ninth-inning work to prop up his value, Johnson should be far away from any fantasy rosters right now.

Johnson will share closing duties with Arodys Vizcaino going forward, Michael Cunningham of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "Probably mix and match maybe and see where we are at in the (opposing) lineups and things like that, and give some (other) guys a chance," Braves manager Brian Snitker said after Sunday's game.
EDGE Analysis
Snitker's announcement comes one day after Johnson blew his eighth save of the year, but the decision likely has as much to do with the rebuilding Braves looking to the future as it does the veteran reliever's actual performance. Johnson's 4.19 ERA does reflect some bad luck as compared to his 2.92 FIP, and he won't be out of the ninth-inning mix entirely, but in fantasy formats where every save isn't necessarily precious it might be time to consider other options in his roster spot.

Johnson allowed a solo homer while striking out one over one inning to blow the save Saturday against the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson gave up the homer to Odubel Herrera with one out in the ninth inning to blow his eighth save of the year. Despite the blown saves and a 4.22 ERA, the fact he has 22 saves makes him a valuable fantasy asset.
