Johnson will remain the Braves' closer for the time being despite the return of Arodys Vizcaino, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vizcaino was working as the closer when he was injured in mid-July, but Johnson shined in his absence, so he will hang onto his ninth-inning duties even though Vizcaino is healthy and back on the big-league roster. It's no lock that Johnson hangs onto the closer's role the rest of the way, but he has tossed nine consecutive scoreless innings, and his job security should only improve as long as he continues having success.

Johnson pitched a perfect ninth inning while striking out two to earn his eighth save of the season Sunday at the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson was protecting a one-run lead and easily shut down the Cardinals on just 10 pitches. After blowing a pair of saves in July, he's now converted his last six opportunities successfully to lower his ERA to 3.70. Since posting sub-3.00 ERAs in 2011-2013, this is the only season since then in which he's posted an ERA of lower than 4.46.

Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one walk and striking out one to earn his sixth save of 2016 Sunday against the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson was protecting a one-run lead, and after allowing a lead-off walk, he induced a double play ball and a strikeout to close the door on the Phillies. He saved four games this week without allowing a run, and he now has a 3.99 ERA on the year

Johnson worked around a hit and one walk to notch his fifth save of the season Friday against the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Even though Johnson finished the job Friday, it wasn't exactly what he needed in order to hush the idea of losing his job as the team's closer. His 4.10 ERA and 1.37 are anything but impressive for a ninth-inning man, and with the Braves playing for nothing but pride, manager Brian Snitker doesn't need much reason to give 22-year-old Mauricio Cabrera a run at the job.

Johnson blew the save Tuesday against the Reds, giving up two runs on four hits over two-thirds of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
Anyone who has ridden the Jim Johnson-as-closer trainer in recent years realizes that this is par for the course. He's a pitch-to-contact reliever, and thus he's subject to the whims of balls in play more than your average closer. This outing could have been worse - the Reds had a runner thrown out on the bases and another caught stealing with Joey Votto at-bat. Meanwhile, Mauricio Cabrera pitched well in extra innings and drew praise afterward - Johnson might not have much role security.

Johnson walked one in 0.2 innings Sunday to pick up the win in a 1-0 victory over the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Chase d'Arnaud's walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Johnson his second win of the season. The fact that he was used to close out the top of the ninth is another strong indicator that he'll be used as the Braves' closer while Arodys Vizcaino (oblique) is out of action, as the team would not have been able to give him a lead to protect had the game gone into extra innings.

Johnson could take over as the Braves' closer for the time being with regular ninth-inning pitcher Arodys Vizcaino (oblique) expected to land on the disabled list, according to MLB.com's Mark Bowman.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson received and converted a save opportunity last week when Vizcaino was out with an elbow injury, so he would be the favorite to take over the closer duties if it turns out Vizcaino does require a stint on the DL. Johnson would presumably serve as the closer until Vizcaino is ready to return, but he is a candidate to be traded prior to the August 1 deadline while playing for a Braves team that is well out of the playoff race.

Johnson worked around a hit to secure his second save of the season Sunday versus the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
With regular closer Arodys Vizcaino (elbow) out of commission, Johnson was called upon to close out Sunday's narrow victory. The former is expected to be back by the end of the week after throwing a bullpen session Sunday, meaning Johnson should slide back into his setup role for the hapless Braves.

Johnson gave up a hit and struck out one while earning his first save of the season on Saturday against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson (groin) was reinstated from the DL at the beginning of the month, and he's pitched well since. He's allowed just one run in nine innings while putting together an impressive 8:2 K:BB over that span. The 32-year-old was slated to close some games for the Braves before falter in the early goings, but he could get back in line for some saves if he continues throwing well.

Johnson (groin) was reinstated from the DL Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson hasn't pitched since May 8 after being placed on the disabled list with a right groin strain. In order to make room for him on the roster, the Braves optioned Ryan Weber to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. During his rehab assignment, Johnson pitched three scoreless innings in three games. More importantly, he has indicated that he felt fine and everything was right on schedule.
