Rays acquired RHP Jesse Crain from the White Sox for players to be named later or cash considerations. Crain is currently on the disabled list with a shoulder strain, so it's possible the return could change based on his health and effectiveness moving forward. It's a worthy gamble for the Rays, as the 32-year-old owns a 0.74 ERA and 46/11 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings this season. He could be an important part of the team's bullpen if healthy.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Rays have acquired Jesse Crain from the White Sox. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the White Sox will receive future considerations. Crain is currently sidelined with a shoulder strain, but he has been very effective when healthy, posting a 0.74 ERA and 46/11 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings. It's a nice gamble for Tampa Bay.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rays remain hopeful of acquiring White Sox reliever Jesse Crain. ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine reported Monday morning that a three-team trade involving Crain was "close" to being finalized, but Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports later reported that nothing was close. However, there's clearly some smoke with the fire. Crain has a 0.74 ERA in 36 2/3 innings this season, but is currently on the DL with a shoulder strain.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports hears that a trade sending Jesse Crain to the Rays is "not close to done." ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine reported Monday morning that a three-team swap featuring Crain was "close" to being finalized, but Passan says that the parties involved are still talking. Crain, 32, is currently on the disabled list with a shoulder injury that isn't showing much improvement. So that obviously complicates things.

According to ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine, the White Sox are close to trading veteran setup man Jesse Crain as part of a three-team deal involving the Rays. Levine calls the impending deal "complicated" because more than two teams are involved and Crain is currently on the disabled list with a lingering shoulder injury. The right-hander last pitched in the majors on June 29 and experienced a setback last week while trying to throw a bullpen session. There should be more details soon.

Jesse Crain (shoulder) will take a few days off from throwing. The decision was made after Crain skipped a scheduled throwing session on Thursday. He plans to ramp things up slowly, so look for his absence to stretch well into August. The veteran right-hander likely would have been a nice trade chip for Chicago if he was healthy, but that can obviously be ruled out at this point.

Jesse Crain (shoulder) was unable to throw a scheduled bullpen session on Thursday afternoon. Crain did not feel good after his warmup tosses and canceled the workout. The veteran right-hander was trying to rush back from a shoulder strain before the July 31 trade deadline and now his value is wrecked. He's going to hold off on throwing for a little while.

Jesse Crain (shoulder) might not throw a bullpen session Thursday as originally hoped. Crain is still nursing some soreness in his pitching shoulder. He'll decide Thursday whether or not he's up to it, but it sounds like he might not quite be ready to return this weekend. The White Sox are no doubt hoping he'll be back healthy this weekend so they can trade him next week.

Jesse Crain (shoulder) is aiming to return to the White Sox bullpen this weekend. Crain will throw bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Thursday and is then hoping to be cleared for major league games. He will not go out on a rehab assignment. It's an aggressive plan, but it gets him back before the July 31 trade deadline and many teams are interested in bringing him aboard. Crain had a 0.74 ERA in 36 2/3 innings before suffering a right shoulder strain.

The Denver Post reports the Rockies have expressed interest in trading for reliever Jesse Crain. Crain is currently sidelined with a right shoulder sprain, but said Monday that he hopes to pitch by the end of next week and remains a candidate to be traded prior to the July 31 non-waiver deadline. The 32-year-old right-hander has a 0.74 ERA and 19 holds over 36 2/3 innings and is set to become a free agent after this season.
