Guthrie tossed 4.1 no-hit innings while walking two and striking out two in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old didn't pitch at all in the majors last year but has had a very strong spring, posting a 2.45 ERA and 12:5 K:BB in 14.2 innings. Guthrie may be emerging as the front-runner for a long relief role in the Nats' bullpen, but as yet the club hasn't even announced whether they'll carry a reliever to fill that role to begin the season, which could leave the veteran looking for work once again.

Guthrie tossed two shutout innings while striking out two in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old is trying to resume his career after not pitching in the majors at all last season, and while Guthrie has no shot at winning a spot in a stacked Nats rotation, he could break camp as the long man in the bullpen with a good spring. Tuesday's sharp outing was a step in the right direction.

Guthrie signed a minor league deal with the Nationals on Friday that includes an invite to major league spring training, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander spent last season in the minors after he did not crack the Rangers' Opening Day roster. His NRI status coupled with the Nationals' stellar pitching at the major league level makes him a bit of a long shot to crack the 25-man out of spring. His starting experience does help his chances, but the Nationals also recently signed 29-year-old Vance Worley, who offers a similar skill set as a spot starter or long reliever.

Guthrie will pitch for the Melbourne Aces in the Australian Baseball League this winter, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Guthrie's last major league appearance came with the Royals during their 2015 World Series campaign. He spent the 2016 season with the Marlins' and Padres' Triple-A affiliates, posting a cumulative 7.17 ERA over 86.2 innings. At 37 years old, it's safe to assume that Guthrie's MLB career has likely come to an end.

Guthrie has been released by the Marlins, Tim Grubbs of Cox Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Guthrie was attempting his second major league comeback this season after being released by the Padres in June. In six starts for Triple-A New Orleans, the 37-year-old compiled a 3-3 record and an 8.44 ERA. It remains to be seen whether another team will take a chance on Guthrie as the season enters the homestretch.

Guthrie signed a minor league deal with the Marlins on Monday and will report to Triple-A, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old opted out of his deal with the Padres earlier this month, and he'll now join the Marlins in hopes of reinvigorating his career. Guthrie made 30 appearances, including 24 starts, for the Royals last season but struggled in 11 Triple-A appearances for San Diego, amassing a 6.60 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 60 innings. Expectations will be low in Miami, but if Guthrie is able to string together a few solid starts at Triple-A, he could work his way into a spot start or two at the major league level.

Guthrie plans to opt out of his Triple-A contract with the Padres to become a free agent, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old owns a very poor 6.60 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through 11 starts at the Triple-A level this season. This opt out could provide the change of scenery necessary to get his season back on track, but his days as an effective major league starter could be over.

Guthrie signed a minor league deal with the Padres on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 36-year-old went 8-8 with a disappointing 5.95 ERA with the Royals in 2015. His 5.14 ERA in spring training was likely a reason the Rangers released him, and he will look to start fresh with the Padres heading into the season. It is possible Guthrie could push for the fifth spot in the rotation or simply serve as organizational depth, depending on how he performs.

Guthrie was granted his release from the Rangers on Monday, John Blake of the Texas Rangers reports.
EDGE Analysis
Guthrie was in the mix for the fifth starter spot until Yu Darvish's expected return in May, but the Rangers have decided to go elsewhere for that position. Guthrie has a lot of major league experience, which could help him land on another major league roster, although the back issues he's been having this spring could also deter some teams. With the veteran out of the fold, AJ Griffin and Nick Martinez are the two remaining competitors for the final rotation spot.

Guthrie (back) pitched two scoreless innings in his spring debut Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
A healthy Guthrie is expected to compete for the fifth spot in the Texas rotation until Yu Darvish's expected return in mid-May.
