Weaver (neck) has locked up a spot in the Angels' rotation, although he could still require a brief stay on the DL to start the season, the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weaver will start Wednesday's minor league game, and if that goes well, he could slot in as the Angels' second starter in their first series against the Cubs. In his last outing he needed just 27 pitches to get through five innings, as 25 of those pitches went for strikes, and two left the yard. He has now given up five home runs over his last 51 pitches, which speaks to just how hittable he is with a low 80s fastball. Weaver may not be long for the rotation if he struggles as expected and C.J. Wilson and Tyler Skaggs get healthy. Monitor his status following Wednesday's start to see if he will indeed open the year on the DL, although that could only cost him one start.

Weaver (neck) will throw five innings or 75 pitches against the A's on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weaver has maintained over the last few weeks that he will be ready for the start of the season after being diagnosed with degenerative changes in his cervical spine. It will be his first outing against major league hitters in more than two weeks. If Weaver is unable to begin the year with the big club, Matt Shoemaker and Nick Tropeano would likely fill out the rotation until he is ready to go.

Weaver (neck) allowed three runs over what amounted to four innings of work Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weaver didn't complete his final inning before reaching his pitch count, but said he felt good after the outing, and is still hopeful to be ready when the season begins. Weaver hit 83 MPH once in the contest, with the average fastball velocity ranging from 78-81 MPH. It is often wise not to take spring results too seriously, but the fact that Weaver was hit around by a Class-A club doesn't do much to inspire confidence that he is close to finding his form.

Weaver's scheduled start for Saturday in the Cactus League has been scratched in favor of an exhibition game Sunday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is another setback in the road back for Weaver, who was diagnosed with mild degenerative changes in his cervical spine on Monday. Weaver could be facing a lengthy DL stint to open the season and it's unclear as to how effective he will be upon his return.

Weaver (spine) visited a spine specialist Monday and the diagnosis of mild degenerative changes in his cervical spine was confirmed, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weaver's official diagnosis of mild degenerative changes in his cervical spine leaves his timetable for a return up in the air. The Angels' said that his throwing will continue "as tolerated" so it seems they will not rush the right-handed veteran back into pitching action until they are entirely sure he won't see a setback. At this point, it seems Weaver will not be ready for the start of the regular season and it's likely he could see significant time on the DL.

Weaver was diagnosed Saturday with mild degenerative changes in the cervical spine and will follow up with a spine specialist Monday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Angels continue to say that Weaver has not been shut down, and he will continue his throwing progressions, although he won't make Monday's scheduled start. Everything would have needed to go right for Weaver to be useful in mixed leagues this year, and he is obviously not off to a good start. If Weaver is forced to miss any time, that would leave two rotation spots for Hector Santiago, Matt Shoemaker, Tyler Skaggs and Nick Tropeano to compete for.

Weaver (neck) remains without a timeline, but he'll miss at least one Cactus League start, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
We're still awaiting further details on Weaver's status, but at this point the team appears to be comfortable approaching the situation with caution. Weaver underwent an MRI on Friday, and the Angels are apparently still considering the results before ruling him out beyond one start.

Weaver's MRI revealed tightening of the nerves in his neck, and is considered day-to-day, the Los Angeles Times' Pedro Moura reports.
EDGE Analysis
He will meet with a doctor Friday to learn more about the issue with his neck, but the team has not officially shut him down. The MRI was prompted by some notably low velocity readings early in spring action, but even if the neck issue gets treated and Weaver gets back up into the mid-80s with his fastball, it is hard to expect much success from him in 2016.

Weaver is being sent for a precautionary MRI after arriving at Angels camp Thursday with tightness in his neck, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's not clear how Weaver's injury originated, but he has had major issues with velocity this spring, and it's possible the two are connected in some way. Expect Weaver's status to be updated when the results of his examination come back.

Weaver's fastball averaged 79 mph in Wednesday's start, and he never topped 81 mph, the Los Angeles Times' Pedro Moura reports. "I wake up every day hoping this is the day that it's going to click," Weaver said after the game, "and it just hasn't happened yet."
EDGE Analysis
He gave up six hits, including three home runs, in 2.2 innings, and his quote suggests he is not confident in what he is bringing to the mound, and nor should he be. Most owners are aware of where Weaver is at in his career and are properly avoiding him in drafts, but it could be worse than even his biggest detractors imagined. His main purpose in fantasy this year will be as a pitcher to stack hitters against in daily leagues.
