Lowrie signed a one-year contract with the Athletics on Friday, Eno Sarris of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lowrie appeared in 139 games for Oakland last year and slashed .245/.318/.398 with 14 homers, 69 RBI and 55 runs. The 37-year-old should have an opportunity to carve out playing time in the team's rebuilding lineup in 2022.

Lowrie's medical evaluation Friday revealed a hairline fracture in his right wrist, and he'll wear a splint for the next four weeks, the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lowrie visited with hand specialist Dr. Thomas Melhoff in Houston, and the discovery of the hairline fracture will cause the veteran to start the offseason limited by the splint. Lowrie is headed for unrestricted free agency this offseason, and after bouncing back to an extent in 2021 following two injury-marred seasons, the Athletics could be interested in a reunion at the right salary.

Lowrie was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a sprained right hand.
EDGE Analysis
Lowrie could be eligible to return for the final game of the regular season, but even if he's recovered from the hand injury there's no guarantee Oakland activates him for one trivial contest. The veteran cooled off after a red-hot start to the season and has hit .245/.318/.398 with 14 home runs and 69 RBI in 139 games. Despite being 37 years old, Lowrie still figures to draw moderate interest on the free-agent market this offseason.

Lowrie (hand) is not starting Friday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
It was reported Thursday that Lowrie was managing hand pain that arose from an awkward swing. He appeared off the bench to log a double in two at-bats during Thursday's loss, but the issue appears to still be bothering the infielder, as he's set to sit against right-hander Brandon Bielak. It remains to be seen if he could be available off the bench Friday. Mark Canha moves to designated hitter as Seth Brown draws the start in right field.

Lowrie, who was out of the lineup Thursday against the Mariners but went 1-for-2 with a double after entering as a pinch hitter, is dealing with pain between the second and third bones in his right hand stemming from an awkward swing, which will limit him to hitting from the left side for the time being, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The switch-hitting veteran's ability to still produce despite the limitation Thursday was encouraging, and Lowrie has actually posted a better OPS (.728) and hit 11 of his 14 home runs against right-handed pitching this season. Given he was able to take a second at-bat as the designated hitter Thursday, Lowrie would seemingly have a chance to return to the starting nine, even if only in a DH role, for Friday's series opener against the Astros.

Lowrie will sit Monday against the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lowrie hasn't started against a southpaw so far in September, as he's found himself locked into a platoon with Khris Davis at the designated hitter spot. Davis will start Monday with lefty Tyler Anderson on the mound for Seattle.

Lowrie is out of the lineup Saturday versus the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Lowrie is 2-for-19 in his past 10 games and finds himself on the bench for the third consecutive contest. Khris Davis has a .308/.333/.423 slash line in 11 games since rejoining Oakland's big-league roster and is making his third straight start at designated hitter.

Lowrie is not starting Friday against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
He'll sit for the second game in a row as Khris Davis handles the DH duties against lefty Jhonathan Diaz. Lowrie is hitless in his last 10 at-bats dating back to Sept. 10.
