Lowrie, who was out of the lineup Thursday against the Mariners but went 1-for-2 with a double after entering as a pinch hitter, is dealing with pain between the second and third bones in his right hand stemming from an awkward swing, which will limit him to hitting from the left side for the time being, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The switch-hitting veteran's ability to still produce despite the limitation Thursday was encouraging, and Lowrie has actually posted a better OPS (.728) and hit 11 of his 14 home runs against right-handed pitching this season. Given he was able to take a second at-bat as the designated hitter Thursday, Lowrie would seemingly have a chance to return to the starting nine, even if only in a DH role, for Friday's series opener against the Astros.
