Bruce isn't starting Wednesday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Although Bruce had a monster game Tuesday as he was a double short of hitting for the cycle, he'll take a seat Wednesday with lefty Wade LeBlanc starting for Baltimore. J.T. Realmuto will serve as the designated hitter with Andrew Knapp starting behind the plate.

Through 36 plate appearances this season, Bruce has collected nine hits, seven of which have gone for extra bases.

Bruce went 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run home run in Saturday's 5-0 win over Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran slugger continues to fill a platoon role for the Phillies -- only two of Bruce's 23 plate appearances this season have come against left-handed pitching -- but he's been very productive with that usage, going 6-for-20 (.300) with two homers and five RBI.

Bruce will not start the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
It would be a surprise to see very many Phillies appear in both of Wednesday's games, as the team has played a total of just one game over the previous nine days. Kyle Garlick will be the designated hitter for the first game, with lefty J.A. Happ on the mound for the Yankees.

Bruce is expected to be the Phillies' primary designated hitter, at least against righties, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bruce appeared in 98 games for the Mariners and Phillies last season, producing a rather lopsided .216/.261/.523 slash line, good for a 98 wRC+. Elbow issues limited him to pinch-hit duty late last season, and while he was able to play the field in spring training, the Phillies probably wouldn't mind using him primarily at the plate given his age (33). He'll likely fill the DH role against most righties, though the Phillies could also use the spot to give some of their regulars the chance to rest their legs.

Bruce is expected to start in left field on Opening Day, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Phillies haven't officially confirmed their plans, but manager Joe Girardi hinted Monday that Bruce would start. He's still working his way back from an elbow injury he suffered last summer, but he played the field for the first time this spring Sunday, starting at first base. Per Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer, he's expected to play outfield later in the week. Until Andrew McCutchen returns from his knee injury, Bruce should start most games against righties.

Bruce (elbow) will start at first base and bat third in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bruce is slated to play the field for the first time this spring after the Phillies deployed him as a designated hitter in each of his prior five appearances during the Grapefruit League schedule. The 32-year-old is projected to see most of his action in the corner outfield this season, but the fact that he's handling any kind of defensive role Sunday suggests the Phillies are feeling more confident in his health after he battled a flexor strain in his throwing elbow late in 2019.
