Hammel (1-5) picked up the win Tuesday, throwing seven innings with six strikeouts while allowing one run on nine hits against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel was finally able to get in the win column in 2018, and put together what was arguably his best start of the season. The 35-year-old threw first-pitch strikes to 20 of the 29 batters he faced, and induced 14 swinging-strikes en route to a season-high six strikeouts. The nine hits allowed were still a bit high, but all nine were singles and he was mostly able to scatter them thanks in part to a pair of inning-ending unsuccessful stolen base attempts. Despite the good performance Tuesday, Hammel will carry a 5.70 ERA into Sunday's tilt against the Rangers.

Hammel (0-5) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs on 10 hits while striking out two over six innings against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel found himself in trouble early, allowing three runs in the first inning and things didn't get much better the rest of the way. The 35-year-old has been getting hit hard all season to the tune of a 6.28 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with only 4.6 K/9. At this point, it'll be tough to put much faith in him regardless of the matchup. Hammel lines up to take on the Cardinals on Tuesday next time out.

Hammel (0-3) allowed eight runs on eight hits and three walks across 4.2 innings while taking the loss Monday against the Red Sox. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel was battered by a potent Boston lineup and especially so in the third inning, when he walked in a run before allowing a grand slam to Xander Bogaerts. All in all he was scored upon in four different frames, sending his ERA jumping nearly two full runs to 4.91. Hammel had allowed just seven earned runs over 27 total innings over his last four starts, and he'll look to bounce back in a much more favorable matchup with the Tigers this weekend.

Hammel took a no decision in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Tigers, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts over nine innings during the 10-inning defeat.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel's only blemish was the Tigers' two-run fifth inning, but even pitching a full nine innings wasn't enough to earn his first victory of the season. The 35-year-old allowed five runs over five innings during his first start of the season, but over his last three starts has given up only four runs on 16 hits over 20.1 innings pitched. Overall it's a solid start to the season for the right-hander, but with he has a low K/9 (6.6) and the feeble Royals' offense should continue to limit his opportunity to earn wins.

Hammel is scheduled to throw the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel was previously scheduled to throw the night game, with Jakob Junis throwing the first game, but the order has been flipped. Hammel has a 3.86 ERA (backed up by a 3.38 FIP) through his first three starts.

Hammel (0-1) came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Angels, allowing two runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander was in line for his first win of the season after throwing 66 of 95 pitches for strikes, but the Royals' bullpen couldn't protect a two-run lead. Hammel now has a respectable 3.86 ERA through three starts, but his 12:5 K:BB through 16.1 innings speaks to his limited fantasy upside. He'll next take the mound Wednesday in Toronto.

Hammel (0-1) gave up three hits and struck out five batters over six shutout innings, but didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Coming off a rough season debut, Hammel tossed a great game Sunday. In addition to giving up three hits, Hammel walked just two batters over his six frames work. Although he left the game while Kansas City had a 1-0 lead, the Royals' bullpen allowed three runs over the outing's last two innings, keeping Hammel from earning his first win of the season. His next start projects to be Friday against the Angels.

Hammel (0-1) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in Monday's loss to the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel's 2018 debut started well, as he allowed one run over his first four innings of work. However, things went south for the 34-year-old in the fifth inning when he allowed four runs on four hits and an intentional walk. Coming off a season that saw Hammel post a lofty 5.29 ERA and 1.43 WHIP, owners may want to proceed with caution until he shows signs of improvement. Hammel figures to have a tough matchup for his next start, as he's scheduled to take the mound Saturday against the Indians.

Hammel will make his first start of the season Monday against the Tigers after his previously scheduled start Sunday against the White Sox was postponed due to inclement weather, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic Kansas City reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move back a day in the schedule now sets Hammel up for a two-start week, with his second turn set to come April 7 in Cleveland. The postponement coupled with an off day this Thursday will allow the Royals to get by with a four-man rotation until April 10 against the Mariners.

Hammel's scheduled start for Sunday against the White Sox was postponed due to inclement weather, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.
EDGE Analysis
The two teams will make up the contest as part of a day-night doubleheader April 28. The Royals haven't announced how the postponement will affect their rotation plans, but it's likely that Hammel will simply be pushed back a day and make his first start of the season Monday against the Tigers.
