The Blue Jays are planning to use Grilli as their primary set-up man, Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
The shuffle shows how much trust Grilli has earned since his May 31 acquisition from the Atlanta Braves. He's made five appearances for Toronto, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walks while striking out eight. Grilli has also notched two holds since joining the team.

The Jays bolstered their struggling bullpen on Tuesday by acquiring veteran reliever Jason Grilli from the Atlanta Braves for prospect Sean Ratcliffe.
EDGE Analysis
The 39-year-old is off to a rocky start this season, as he comes to Toronto sporting a 5.29 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. But he's not far removed from being an above average arm out of the bullpen. Last season with the Braves, Grilli racked up 24 saves and 45 strikeouts with a 2.94 ERA over 33.2 innings before an Achilles injury ended his year. The Royal Oak, Mich., native also had an all-star campaign with the Pirates in 2013 in which he picked up 33 saves and posted a 2.70 ERA while posting a ridiculous 13.3 K/9.

Grilli (1-2) took the loss Thursday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on two hits while managing to record a single out.
EDGE Analysis
After averaging 23 saves over the past three seasons, the veteran has struggled in his role as a set-up man this year. Grilli has yet to hold a game while blowing two saves and losing two. He's really struggled to find his control, dishing free passes at an atrocious 7.15 rate.

Grilli worked a scoreless 10th inning Sunday, walking one and striking out one, to pick up his second save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
The Braves actually had a lead in the ninth for once but Arodys Vizcaino couldn't nail things down, allowing Grilli to do the honors instead when Atlanta re-took the lead in the top of the 10th. The veteran right-hander threw just nine of his 19 pitches for strikes and has a 6.00 ERA, 2.11 WHIP and 10:9 K:BB in nine innings on the season, though, so he isn't about to supplant Vizcaino in the closer role any time soon.

Grilli blew the save Sunday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one in the ninth inning, but then picked up his first win of the season when the Braves scored in the top of the 10th to down the Marlins 6-5.
EDGE Analysis
Arodys Vizcaino was unavailable, leaving Grilli to handle the ninth inning, but the veteran blew his second save in three chances on the young season. Much as the Braves would love for Grilli to pitch well and potentially make himself a marketable commodity, his 5.79 ERA and 7:5 K:BB through 4.2 innings aren't going to entice rival GMs to pick up the phone.

Grilli picked up his first save with a scoreless ninth inning while allowing a hit and a walk along with three strikeouts Saturday at the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Although Arodys Vizcaino saved the first win of the Braves season on Friday, Grilli was handed the ninth inning duties in this contest. Despite allowing runs to score in two of his four outings, it's still possible that he'll continue to see save opportunities throughout the season.

Grilli pitched a scoreless sixth inning in Monday's loss to the Nationals, striking out one.
EDGE Analysis
Grilli was initially viewed as an option to be the team's closer, but he's struggled mightily in the early going to the tune of a 6.75 ERA with more walks (four) than strikeouts (three). It sounds as though the move to the sixth inning was more for him to iron out some things rather than a permanent demotion, but it could still be an indication that he won't be considered in higher-leverage situations for the time being.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Monday night that Arodys Vizcaino is the team's primary option at closer, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez turned to Vizcaino in the eighth inning Monday against the heart of the Nationals' order, and the right-hander responded with a scoreless frame, touching 97 mph and striking out two batters. Grilli came on for the ninth and issued a leadoff walk to Jasyon Werth, who came around to score and tie the game on a sacrifice fly to center. It sounds like Gonzalez may continue to use Vizcaino occasionally in the eighth if there's a tough part of the order due up, which would afford Grilli some opportunities, but it's now clear that he's behind Vizcaino in the pecking order for saves.

Grilli loaded the bases in the ninth inning before Michael Taylor hit a game-tying sacrifice fly, giving Grilli his first blown save of the season Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Grilli's hold on the closer role was tenuous to begin with, and Vizcaino's no-hit eighth-inning isn't going to make it any easier for Grilli to hold onto the job. Grilli did pitch well a season ago however, registering a 2.94 ERA and 24 saves.

Grilli threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout in Sunday's spring training loss to Detroit. "Things are progressing as I expected. I just want to get a little more feel for some things. I've probably got four or five more outings. I'm right on track," he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
EDGE Analysis
Grilli gave up a home run in his spring debut Thursday, but looked much better Sunday. It looks like he'll be ready for Opening Day after his season ended last year due to a ruptured left Achilles tendon that delayed his spring debut. Manager Fredi Gonzalez recently suggested he may mix and match in the later innings with Grilli, Arodys Vizcaino, and Jim Johnson, rather than open the year with a set closer.
