Arrieta (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's start against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta missed just over three weeks due to a tight right hamstring, but he'll be back on the mound Friday after right-hander Trevor Williams was traded to the Mets. The 35-year-old had posted an 11.02 ERA and 2.33 WHIP in 16.1 innings across his five starts prior to his injury.

Arrieta (hamstring) will throw a simulated inning Monday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta has been on the injured list since July 7 due to right hamstring tightness, but Monday's throwing session could help the team evaluate his progress in his recovery. A better timetable for the right-hander's return to game action could be established based on how he feels after the simulated inning.

Arrieta (hamstring) won't return from the 10-day injured list when he's first eligible Saturday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta has been dealing with right hamstring tightness since July 7, and manager David Ross said Friday that the right-hander has been working on some things in the bullpen during his absence. A timetable for his return hasn't yet been established, although the Cubs may take a cautious approach so he has time to sort things out following a lackluster start to the season.

The Cubs placed Arrieta on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right hamstring tightness, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 35-year-old will be sidelined until the beginning of the second half, and possibly longer. Arrieta was sieged for seven runs in 1.2 innings Tuesday, and though he's put forth very few good starts in the last couple months, he may remain part of the starting rotation once healthy due to a lack of better options. Trevor Williams is an option to start games during Arrieta's absence, as is Cory Abbott, whom the Cubs recalled Wednesday in a corresponding move.

Arrieta (5-9) coughed up seven runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus Philadelphia.
EDGE Analysis
This was the second straight start Arrieta failed to get out of the second inning. His former team hit him hard Tuesday, with a Andrew McCutchen grand slam in the first inning and a three-run rally in the second. The right-hander's ERA ballooned again to 6.30 with a 1.64 WHIP and 66:36 K:BB across 74.1 innings. The 35-year-old continues to be untrustworthy from a fantasy standpoint, and his rotation spot could be in jeopardy now that Trevor Williams (abdomen) is back. For now, Arrieta lines up to start against St. Louis this weekend.

Arrieta allowed six runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks across 1.2 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Brewers. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta was better his last time out, allowing just two earned runs across five innings, but he's had way too many poor performances this season. The veteran righty has now allowed 25 runs (20 earned) across his last six outings, and his season-long ERA of 5.57 reflects his struggles. Coming off of a disappointing 2020 campaign in Philadelphia in which he posted a 5.08 ERA, Arrieta is not a reliable fantasy option at this point in his career. He lines up to face the Phillies in his next scheduled start Tuesday.

Arrieta allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings Friday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta's night could've gone a lot worse if he hadn't found a way out of two bases-loaded scenarios. He allowed a run to score in the second on an RBI groundout by Gavin Lux and then was taken deep to lead off the third by Zach McKinstry. Arrieta hasn't been able to reproduce the same magic he had in his first stint with the Cubs, as he currently owns a 5.32 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 60:30 BB:K over 71 innings. He's now lined up for a meeting against Milwaukee next week.

Arrieta (5-8) took the loss Saturday against the Marlins, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits across three innings. He fanned five and did not issue a walk.
EDGE Analysis
A fielding error by Kris Bryant helped set up a three-run first inning for Miami that was capped off by a two-run long ball by Adam Duvall. A Jose Lobaton passed ball assisted the Marlins in pushing a fourth run across in the second inning before a second two-run homer by Duvall gave Miami a 6-0 lead in the third. While his defense let him down a bit Saturday, the right-hander has now allowed four earned runs in consecutive shaky outings. He'll look to get his first win since May 25 when he takes the ball at some point during next weekend's series at Dodger Stadium.

Arrieta (5-7) took the loss Monday against the Mets after allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran has now failed to pitch past five innings in six straight starts, posting a 6.66 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB through 25.2 innings over that stretch. Arrieta hasn't delivered useful fantasy numbers since 2018, and despite his solid April performance, it looks like the current campaign will be no different for the 35-year-old.

Arrieta allowed one run across five innings and did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Padres. He gave up four hits and a walk while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta pitched reasonably well and matched San Diego ace Yu Darvish through five innings, though he left with the game tied 1-1. The veteran righty had picked up losses in each of his last two appearances, yielding eight earned runs across just 5.2 combined innings in those starts, so this was a step in the right direction. He'll take a 4.97 ERA into his next scheduled outing Monday against the Mets.
