Happ turned heads within the Yankees organization for his performance this spring, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.
EDGE Analysis
Yankees vice president of baseball operations Tim Naehring raved about Happ's showing in Grapefruit League play in an interview with Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network on Wednesday. "Thought he picked up where he left off the last six or seven weeks of last season," Naehring said. "Thought he came in with what looked to be great laser focus, crisp stuff." The accolades are no surprise given Happ's numbers this spring: a 2-0 record, 1.38 ERA and 16:1 K:BB over 13 innings. The southpaw is a lock for a spot in the Yankees' rotation when the 2020 season gets underway.

Happ allowed one run in four innings against Philadelphia on Monday, giving up three hits while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
Mikie Mahtook went deep against Happ in the third inning, but the hurler was otherwise excellent in his fourth Grapefruit League outing. Happ has solidified his hold on the No. 3 spot in the Yankees' Opening Day rotation with a dominant spring in which he has posted a 1.38 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 11.1 K/9 over 13 innings.

Happ pitched four scoreless innings in a Grapefruit League outing against the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
Happ's numbers this spring include one earned run in nine innings of work along with 11 strikeouts. Following injuries to James Paxton (back) and Luis Severino (elbow), Happ is lined up to be the Yankees' third starter to open the season in spite of a rocky 2019 campaign. He's far from a sure thing, but he could be a fantasy sleeper if he's able to return to the solid numbers he posted from 2016-2018.

Happ will likely be the starter in the Yankees' initial spring training contest against the Blue Jays on Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though opening the spring training slate pales in comparison to starting on Opening Day, it does help Happ get a jump on solidifying his grasp on the fifth-starter role. The 37-year-old is currently penciled in to be a part of the Yankees' rotation but will need to perform reasonably well to maintain that spot over the entire season.

Happ will begin the 2020 season as New York's fifth starter, YES Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Happ started 30 games for the Yankees a season ago, posting a 4.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with a 140:49 K:BB across 161.1 frames. While he'll open the year as part of the rotation, he'll need to prove as the season unfolds that he belongs in that role after struggling for much of the 2019 campaign.

Happ didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Rays, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over five innings of relief while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw entered the game after opener Jonathan Loaisiga had coughed up a quick two runs in the first inning, and while Happ kept things close, the Yankees' offense was never able to solve Charlie Morton and the Tampa Bay bullpen. Happ finishes up 2019 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 140:49 K:BB through 161.1 innings, and it's not yet clear what role he'll have in the team's postseason rotation plans.

Happ is scheduled to serve as the primary pitcher Wednesday against the Rays, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Yankees have yet to announce who will serve as the opener in front of Happ, but the southpaw will come out of the bullpen in order to prepare him for the playoffs. Happ has been sharp in four appearances this month, posting a 1.61 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB in 22.1 innings.

Happ allowed two runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts across 5.1 innings during a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
His value continues to be limited because he doesn't often pitch past five innings, but Happ is on a hot streak as of late, posting a 1.61 ERA in his last four outings. He also has 29 strikeouts in the past 27 innings. Happ is 12-8 with a 5.01 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 134 strikeouts in 156.1 innings this season. He is scheduled to make his last regular season start at the Rays on Wednesday.

Happ (biceps) will make his next scheduled start Friday against the Blue Jays, Mike Mazzeo of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Happ was hoping to take the ball Thursday, but the Yankees decided he would benefit from one additional day of rest. As such, Happ will swap spots in the rotation with Masahiro Tanaka, and he will get the nod Thursday against the Angels instead.

Happ (biceps) is still hoping to start Thursday against the Angels, Mike Mazzeo of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Happ has been dealing with biceps tendinitis in recent weeks and received a cortisone shot Friday, though it doesn't appear as though he'll wind up missing a start. If he's able to pitch Thursday, he'll simply be pitching on two extra days of rest, as his previous start came last Thursday against the Tigers.
