Davis (hip) successfully underwent arthroscopic left hip surgery Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Davis suffered a strained left hip and torn labrum earlier in August and will remain sidelined from baseball activities for the time being. If all goes well over the offseason, the 28-year-old could be ready in time for the start of spring training for 2016.

The Oakland A's transferred first baseman Ike Davis to the 60-day disabled list Saturday after an MRI revealed he will need season-ending labrum surgery, according to CSN Bay Area. Davis, who missed more than a month earlier in the season with a quadriceps injury, had missed five of the last seven games before going on the disabled list earlier this week. Manager Bob Melvin said Davis experienced persistent discomfort while performing baseball activities prior to the diagnosis. "We took a while to get him back [from the quad injury]," Melvin told ESPN on Friday. "I thought once we got him back, he was over that hurdle. I guess it got progressively worse, and he wasn't saying a whole lot about it. Recently, the last couple weeks, it got to where he wasn't comfortable either swinging or running. It came to a head then, but it just wasn't getting any better, and the MRI revealed he needed to have surgery."

Oakland A's first baseman Ike Davis was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a strained left hip. Davis has missed five of the last seven games due to the ailment, and Mark Canha will likely get an increase in playing time while Davis is out.

Davis is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees. Davis routinely sits against left-handed pitching, so it's not a big surprise that he'll sit against southpaw CC Sabathia on Wednesday. Stephen Vogt will come out from behind the plate to replace him at first base, while Josh Phegley will start behind the dish.

Davis is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners. As has been the case often this season, Davis will sit with a left-hander on the mound in Mike Montgomery. Davis is just 2-for-12 against southpaws this season.

Davis is not in the starting lineup Friday against Seattle left-hander J.A. Happ. Davis will rarely start against left-handed pitching, while the A's are using Stephen Vogt at first base while Davis is on the bench Friday.

Davis is out of the lineup Tuesday against Colorado. Davis connected on his third home run of the season Monday, but will take a seat Tuesday with lefty Jorge De La Rosa on the mound for the Rockies. Stephen Vogt will slide over to first base Tuesday.

Davis was 2-for-4 on Monday night and hit his third homer. The homer was the first for Davis in Oakland this year and also his first since returning from the DL 10 days ago. Now healthy, Davis will be the A's first baseman in almost every game when they face a right-handed pitcher and could be a nice play in daily leagues (or full-season leagues with daily moves) at a very cheap price on those days.

Davis is back in the lineup Thursday, batting seventh against Texas. Davis sat out of Wednesday's game as the Rangers had lefty Wandy Rodriguez on the mound. He'll return to his spot at first base for Thursday's series finale and face right-hander Colby Lewis. Davis is batting .280 with two home runs against righties this season.

Davis is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers. Davis had played in every game since being activated from the DL on Friday, going 3-for-14 in that span, but will get the night off Wednesday against lefty Wandy Rodriguez. The A's will slide Stephen Vogt over to first base and use Billy Butler as the DH. Davis could return to the lineup Thursday when the A's face right-hander Colby Lewis.
