Street (groin) will not pitch this weekend in the Angels' series against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Manager Mike Scioscia confirmed Thursday that Street would be out through the All-Star break. Street tweaked his groin in Wednesday's outing, and earlier reports Thursday suggested that he was in danger of missing this weekend's series. More information on Street's status for after the break should be made available next week, but Scioscia said that Joe Smith would be the Angels' closer for this weekend.

Street could be unavailable until after the All-Star break after tweaking his left groin in Wednesday's game, the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher reports. "I don't think it's that bad," Street said after the game. "I've had it in the past where I can't walk around. Worse comes to worst, if I can't be back by the Seattle series, we still have the All-Star break." He felt something in his left groin after his final pitch while recording a save Thursday and will be re-evaluated when the Angels play this weekend in Seattle. Based on his comments it sounds like Street could be good to go to start the second half, but owners should be prepared to be without him this weekend. Joe Smith is the likely fill-in closer while Street is sidelined.

Street picked up his 18th save of the season against the A's on Friday, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out a batter in the ninth inning. Street struck out one during a perfect ninth inning to earn his third save in as many days on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. The 31-year-old has been one of the most effective closer's in the game this season, as he now ranks second in baseball with 17 saves and has posted a 2.45 ERA and a minuscule 0.86 WHIP through 22 innings pitched.

Street gave up a solo homer to Detroit's Ian Kinsler in the ninth inning Saturday, but held on for his 16th save. It was the first run surrendered by the Angels' closer since May 7, as Street has been outstanding once again this year. He's blown just two save chances and still hasn't walked a batter in nine appearances since that rare early-May implosion.

Street agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension wit the Angels on Wednesday. Street has thrived in the closer role for each of the past six seasons between three different clubs, and has now been locked up for two more years with a club option for a third. His 3.29 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 15 strikeouts represents his worst showing since 2011 to this point, but he's already converted 11 saves this season and has plenty of the campaign left to improve on his stats.

Street threw a perfect inning with two strikeouts to pick up his 11th save of the season Tuesday against the Rockies. Street appears to have righted the ship after suffering back-to-back blown saves, recording two over the last two games. The 31-year-old was bound to see his ERA rise a bit after securing unsustainable strand rates over the last two seasons, but he should still see plenty of save opportunities behind mike Trout and the Angels' offense.
