Orioles purchased the contract of RHP Freddy Garcia from Triple-A Norfolk. Garcia will serve as the Orioles fifth start for Saturday's game against the Angels. He posted a 2.67 ERA in five starts at the Triple-A level and should continue to be ignored outside of AL-only formats.

The Orioles are planning to promote right-hander Freddy Garcia to start Saturday against the Angels. Garcia has posted a promising 2.67 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 21/2 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Norfolk. He's worth a try in deeper mixed leagues.

Freddy Garcia has informed the Orioles that he will remain with the organization through May 14. Garcia could have opted out of his contract after his fifth start for Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, but he'll stick around for now. The veteran right-hander has posted a 2.67 ERA in five starts with Norfolk, so if the Orioles won't call him up, other teams will be interested.

Freddy Garcia is among the candidates to start for the Orioles on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. The Orioles need a spot-starter because they played a doubleheader on Saturday and don't want to use any of their pitchers on short-rest. Zach Britton and Josh Stinson are among the other possibilities for the assignment. Most fantasy owners can avoid the situation.

Orioles signed RHP Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract. Garcia was released by the Padres earlier this week after posting an 8.71 ERA in 20 2/3 innings, but he wasn't out of a job for long. While the Orioles are already extremely confident with the overall depth in their starting rotation, you can never have enough pitching. Garcia will serve as additional depth at the Triple-A level and could resurface in the majors down the line.

Padres released RHP Freddy Garcia. The veteran right-hander was unable to make a real push for a roster spot, posting an 8.71 ERA in 20 2/3 innings this spring. Despite the poor showing in Cactus League action, Garcia shouldn't be out of a job long.

Freddy Garcia gave up six runs over five innings Sunday against the Angels. Garcia is competing for a spot in the Padres' rotation, but will likely only have a shot if Andrew Cashner (thumb) isn't ready for the start of the season. He allowed five extra-base hits Sunday, including a two-run homer to Vernon Wells. If all goes as planned, Garcia will open 2013 in a long relief role.

Freddy Garcia struck out six while tossing four innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Giants. Garcia gave up three hits -- including a solo homer to Johnny Monell -- and issued one free pass. It was a much-needed solid outing for the right-hander after he permitted 11 runs -- 10 earned -- over his first 6 2/3 spring frames. Garcia will likely fill a long relief role for the Padres if Andrew Cashner is ready to start the season.

Freddy Garcia gave up three runs over three frames in Thursday's loss to the Angels. He didn't walk anyone and allowed just three hits, but two of them left the yard. Garcia is competing for a spot in the Padres' rotation this spring but will likely have a shot only if Andrew Cashner isn't ready.

Freddy Garcia was hammered by a Dodgers split-squad on Friday afternoon, giving up three runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Garcia also issued two free passes while racking up three strikeouts. It's been a very rough go of the early spring schedule for Garcia, who was knocked around by the Mariners in his first appearance. He's starting to look like a longshot to crack the Padres Opening Day rotation, and would possess minimal fantasy value even if he did.
