Gattis went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 5-1 loss to Texas.
EDGE Analysis
For the second straight game, Gattis served as the designated hitter and batted seventh in the order. That's a nice spot in the batting order for him, as Gattis should get opportunities with men on base. He was up at key spot Friday, with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, but waved at a breaking ball in the dirt. He's left seven men on base over the first two games, including three in scoring position.

Gattis went hit-less in three at-bats, walked once and struck out twice in Thursday's 4-1 win over Texas.
EDGE Analysis
Since joining the Astros in 2015, Gattis' plate appearances have decreased each successive season, but he's expected turn that trend around. He'll have a regular gig this year, serving as Houston's primary designated hitter. He should slot in anywhere between fifth and seven in the order, where RBI opportunities could be plenty hitting behind Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Marwin Gonzalez.

Gattis (elbow) came off the bench to catch four innings in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Gattis got whacked on the elbow by an errant pitch Saturday and hadn't played since. It's notable that came in to catch, indicating the elbow is fine. He's expected to get regular duty at designated hitter, while Max Stassi serves as the primary backup to Brian McCann at catcher.

Gattis was removed from Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins after being struck by a pitch in the left elbow, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
X-rays conducted on Gattis' elbow came back negative, with the Astros' projected designated hitter only dealing with some minor swelling. Gattis said he expects to be fine for the start of the season, but fantasy owners will nonetheless want to keep tabs on the situation before setting their weekly lineups ahead of Opening Day.

Gattis will be the third catcher and primary designated hitter this season, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Along with announcing that Max Stassi has made the Astros' roster, manager A.J. Hinch clarified roles behind the plate: Stassi will catch more than Gattis. That means Gattis may his catcher-eligibility after the 2018 season. Gattis caught very few games this spring, and there have been concerns about his ability to throw. Making the manager's decision easier is how pitchers developed a rapport with Stassi, and Hinch believes his overall game as taken a step forward.

Manager A.J. Hinch said he's already started to employ Gattis in an effort to replicate what will happen to him during the regular season, Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Houston expected to carry three catchers, Gattis needs to get comfortable with having a few days off from catching, and then going back behind the plate. That involves finding a rhythm, throwing, blocking and game calling. We saw Hinch's plan this past week. Gattis served as the designated hitter Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and then went behind the plate Thursday after an off day. If the shuttling between spots doesn't hurt Gattis' bat, this shouldn't impact his fantasy value much in 2018, as he's already qualified as a catcher. However, going forward he could be a DH-only depending on how many catcher starts he gets this season.

Gattis agreed to a one-year, $6.7 million deal with the Astros on Friday to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
This was the final year that Gattis is an arbitration-eligible player, as the 31-year-old benefited with a $1.5 million raise. Heading into 2018, Gattis is expected to be the primary designated hitter for the Astros, while Max Stassi will move into the reserve role behind Brian McCann at the catching position. During the 2017 campaign, Gattis slashed .263/.311/.457 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI in 84 games.

Gattis is expected to be utilized as the Astros' primary designated hitter in 2018, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. Max Stassi is expected to be the backup catcher to starter Brian McCann.
EDGE Analysis
Gattis, who served as the No. 2 catcher in 2017, should get ample at-bats moving out from behind the plate -- he had a career-low 300 at-bats last season. A perfectly normal assumption is that without the wear-and-tear of catching and preparing game plans for pitchers, Gattis can become a bigger offensive threat by focusing solely on his batting. However, the 31-year-old has been less productive as a DH (11 HR, .710 OPS, 981 PA) over his career than as a catcher (60 HR, .860 OPS, 943 PA).

Gattis is not in the lineup for Game 2 against the Yankees on Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager A.J. Hinch will roll out the same lineup that delivered a victory during Game 1 on Friday with the team facing another right-hander in Luis Severino. With lefty CC Sabathia taking the hill Monday for Game 3, Gattis will likely return to the starting nine in the DH spot.

Gattis is out of the lineup for Game 1 of the ALCS against the Yankees on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Gattis will retreat to the bench as Carlos Beltran gets the nod at DH and Brian McCann sets up behind the plate for Game 1 against Masahiro Tanaka. It's expected that Gattis will see regular playing time this series after performing well versus Boston in the ALDS.
