Eric Stults gave up five runs on eight hits over seven innings in a loss Sunday against the Giants. Stults had been serviceable to this point, but these are the type of games you have to expect from him. He had just two strikeouts and allowed a two-run homer to Buster Posey. Stults is no more than an NL-only option.

Eric Stults limited the Dodgers to three runs on nine hits and a walk over six frames in Monday's 6-3 win. He struck out four on the night and needed 99 pitches to cover the six innings. Stults mostly did a good job of damage control on the mound, but it was at the plate where he really came up big, delivering a two-out, three-run homer in the second inning off of Chad Billingsley. The soft-tossing left-hander will take on the Giants next.

Eric Stults tossed five shutout frames in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Mets. Stults gave up just three hits and two walks while striking out a career-high seven. The southpaw only averaged 5.0 K/9 last season, so we wouldn't look for that to continue in future outings, but he remains a decent option in NL-only leagues for the time being.

Eric Stults yielded two runs (one earned) over four innings in Friday's start against the Rangers. Coming off a 2.91 ERA last in 2012, Stults will begin the season in the Padres' starting rotation, but we have serious doubts about his ability to stick there. The southpaw is set to start the third game of the season against the Mets next week, which isn't the worst matchup, but he's unlikely to be relevant outside of NL-only fantasy leagues.

Eric Stults held the Diamondbacks to two earned runs over six innings Tuesday in a 6-2 victory. Stults walked one and struck out two. The 33-year-old lefty has an ugly 6.92 ERA in 13 innings this spring, but he is still expected to open the season in the Padres' starting rotation. Stults posted a 2.91 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 15 starts and five relief appearances last season.

Eric Stults gave up two runs over three innings in Monday's loss to the Rangers. Stults surrendered two hits and a walk and did not strike out a batter. The left-hander has allowed six runs over his first four innings this spring, but he's still expected to open the year as part of the Padres' rotation.

Padres manager Bud Black indicated Monday that Eric Stults is locked into a rotation spot. He probably deserves it after posting a 2.92 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 18 games -- 14 starts -- for the Pads last season. The lefty could have some NL-only value this season. Stults will be joined in the rotation by Edinson Volquez, Clayton Richard and Jason Marquis, and Andrew Casher (thumb) will also have a spot if he's healthy. A host of pitchers will compete for the No. 5 spot if Cashner starts the year on the DL.

Making his final start of the season, Eric Stults held the Giants to three runs on six hits and three walks in six innings of Saturday's 7-3 win. Stults struck out five in improving to 8-3. His only real mistake came in the first, where he served up a three-run homer to Hunter Pence. The quality start was his third straight, and sixth in seven outings. The impending free agent finishes 2012 the owner of a 2.92 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 55/27 K/BB ratio through 99 innings.

Eric Stults turned in a quality start in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks, surrendering three runs on five hits over six innings of work. He struck out six on the night. Miguel Montero was responsible for most of the damage, smacking a pair of RBI doubles. Stults has done a very nice job since rejoining the Padres rotation on August 6, posting a 5-1 record, 2.37 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over eight starts. He'll look to keep the ball rolling when he takes on the Dodgers at home on Wednesday.

Eric Stults was impressive in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday, allowing just one run on seven hits over his six innings. Stults walked one and struck out one on the evening. The only run he allowed came in the second inning on a solo homer from Andre Ethier. Stults has pitched very well in 14 appearances for the Padres (10 starts), posting a 5-2 record and 2.35 ERA. With the Padres' new six-man rotation, he won't get the ball again until Tuesday when he takes on the Cardinals at home.
