Mujica recorded the final two outs of Saturday's victory to earn his fourth save of the season. Drake Britton started the ninth inning after he pitched the eighth, but Mujica entered with one out to close the door despite issuing a free pass. For now, Mujica has surpassed Koji Uehara on the Red Sox's ninth-inning depth chart.

Mujica has been moved to the closer role. Mujica enjoyed a good deal of success as closer for the Cardinals last season, so the Red Sox will turn to him to replace the struggling Koji Uehara in the ninth inning. Although his overall numbers this season are still rather unsightly (4.13 ERA, 1.36 WHIP), Mujica has posted a 1.53 ERA and .242 BAA since the All-Star break. It's possible he could run away with the job, but Farrell did leave the door open for Uehara to reclaim the closer role before the end of the season.

Mujica picked up the save Wednesday, allowing two hits and no runs in a scoreless inning against the Reds. Mujica was the choice to close out the game because Koji Uehara had worked in each of the last four games.

Mujica made his eighth straight scoreless appearance in Tuesday night's win over the Reds. He picked up his second consecutive hold. We never thought we'd see Mujica getting set up innings, but he's earned manager John Farrell's trust with his recent streak. In the past eight outings, Mujica's allowed four hits and one walk in 6.2 innings.

Mujica recorded just his second hold of the season Sunday, pitching a scoreless inning in a win over the Angels. Mujica has gone seven straight appearances without allowing a run, his longest stretch of success, to lower his season ERA to 4.64.

Edward Mujica gave up a three-run homer after getting just one out in the 12th inning Wednesday against the Indians. That's five homers allowed for Mujica this year. He's been terribly ineffective in the first season of a two-year, $9 million contract, amassing a 7.29 ERA to date. Furthermore, he doesn't have a single hold in his 22 appearances.

Edward Mujica (oblique) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday and has been cleared to return to action. Mujica was unavailable for a couple of games because of oblique tightness. The right-hander has surrendered 10 earned runs in 10 innings this season for Boston.

Edward Mujica is dealing with a tight oblique. It kept him from pitching in the ninth inning Saturday against the A's. Mujica will be examined on Sunday. If a strain is diagnosed, a disabled list stint could follow.

Edward Mujica took a blown save after giving up a run in the 10th inning Wednesday against the White Sox. Last year, Mujica took his first loss and blown save of the season on July 4. By that time, he had already pitched 34 1/3 innings. This year, he already has one of each. One wonders how much longer he'll be trusted as Koji Uehara's fallback.

Edward Mujica -- not Koji Uehara -- pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch a save against the Yankees on Friday. Uehara experienced some slight shoulder soreness while playing catch Friday, so the Red Sox decided to hold him out. It's being called precautionary and there are no plans to send him for tests right now, but Mujica will close until he's ready to return. Pick him up where available in fantasy leagues.
