Phelps (3-5) struck out every batter he faced through 1.2 scoreless innings during Monday's win over Texas.
EDGE Analysis
This was easily Phelps best outing since joining the Mariners on July 20, and it highlighted exactly why Seattle added him. Phelps projects to continue seeing plenty of work in a setup role, and while his fantasy upside is capped, he could provide ratio help in deep settings. He sports a 3.18 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 104 K/9 for the campaign.

Phelps (0-1) allowed two earned runs on four hits in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Mets. He also recorded a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
After starting out his Mariners stint with a trio of scoreless efforts, Phelps faltered Friday, failing to preserve the 5-5 tie he'd inherited upon entering the eighth. The 30-year-old right-hander allowed a go-ahead RBI single to Neil Walker in the eighth before yielding another hit to Curtis Granderson that plated an insurance run. Despite the stumble, Phelps' overpowering stuff should continue to afford him plenty of late-inning work as a bridge to closer Edwin Diaz.

Phelps pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's 4-0 win over the Red Sox, recording two strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
The hard-throwing veteran was locked in, throwing nine of 12 pitches for strikes while impressively disposing of Andrew Benintendi, Dustin Pedroia and Hanley Ramirez in brisk fashion. Phelps has quickly compiled 2.1 perfect frames across two appearances in a Seattle uniform and preliminary returns seem to indicate he'll be a frequently deployed right-handed option for manager Scott Servais. Phelps had compiled 18 holds, a solid 3.45 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 46.2 innings with the Marlins prior to the trade that brought him west, so he certainly remains a viable option in all fantasy formats, especially those that count holds.

Phelps will remain in a relief role with the Mariners for the rest of the 2017 season but could transition back into a starter in the future, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners acquired Phelps on Thursday to help bolster their inconsistent bullpen. The last season Phelps worked primarily as a starter was 2015, when he posted a 4.50 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP with 77 strikeouts across 112.0 innings. Still, Phelps has been strong in relief this season with a 3.45 ERA with 51 strikeouts over 47.0 innings. He'll likely be fill a setup role in front of closer Edwin Diaz.

Phelps was traded to the Marines on Thursday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phelps has been one of the most consistent and durable relievers over the past couple years, posting a 2.28 ERA over 86.2 innings of work during the 2016 season. This year, Phelps settled down after a rough start to the season, and has accumulated an ERA of 2.45 with a 1.24 WHIP since the beginning of May, while pitching in the eighth-inning role out of the bullpen. He should immediately slide in as one of the top arms coming out of Seattle's bullpen, and should see opportunities as a setup man in front of closer Edwin Diaz. In return, the Marlins received center fielder Brayan Hernandez, as well as pitching prospects Brandon Miller, Pablo Lopez and Lucas Schiraldi.

A deal that would send Phelps to the Mariners is "at the finish line", Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander would help an erratic Seattle setup -- and sometimes closer -- crew, though he'd probably be tasked with working high-leverage, non-save situations. Phelps has rejuvenated his career in the last two seasons with permanent bullpen duty and boasts a 2.19 ERA with a .586 opponents' OPS in his last 36 appearances, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Phelps has an ERA of 0.79 in 22.2 home innings this season with an ERA of 6.45 in 22.1 innings on the road this year.
EDGE Analysis
It's hard to account for that big of a difference between home and road splits, but playing in pitcher-friendly Marlins Park surely helps. Overall, Phelps' ERA sits at 3.60 and he's struck out 26.0 percent of hitters. He also has 18 holds this season, putting him second in the National League. He's making himself a good choice for when he's at home, but beware of weeks when Miami is on a road trip.

Phelps struck out one in a perfect eighth inning Friday to notch his 10th hold of the season in a win over the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
He's now recorded holds in six of his last seven appearances, and Phelps appears to have supplanted Kyle Barraclough as the preferred right-handed setup option for the Marlins in front of closer A.J. Ramos. The 30-year-old's 3.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB in 33 innings on the season aren't elite, but if Ramos gets dealt before the trade deadline, Phelps could find himself handling ninth-inning duties over the final couple of months.

Phelps was reinstated from the bereavement list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Phelps has been out since May 21, but he'll return to the Marlins bullpen just in time for their series opener with the Dodgers. Drew Steckenrider was optioned to Triple-A to make room for him.

Phelps was placed on the bereavement list Sunday and will miss the team's upcoming two-game series in Oakland, the Sun Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Due to a death in the family, the reliever will take a step away from baseball for a few days. Drew Steckenrider is expected to get called up from Triple-A New Orleans to fill the vacancy in the bullpen while Phelps is away.
