Ortiz (back) is in the lineup Saturday, batting third against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran slugger exited Friday's tilt with some stiffness in his upper back, but Ortiz is no worse for wear Saturday and he'll be able to reclaim his usual spot in the order. Ortiz is hitting .294 with a .942 OPS in August.

Ortiz left Friday's game with upper-back stiffness, but manager John Farrell said he expects him to play Saturday, the Boston Herald's Jason Mastrodonato reports.
EDGE Analysis
He went 2-for-3 with a home run, his 28th of the season, before being replaced by Travis Shaw when his back started acting up. It sounds like a minor issue that won't cost Ortiz any more time, but it's worth checking back to make sure he's in Saturday's lineup before deploying him in daily leagues.

As expected, Ortiz is out of the lineup Thursday against the Tigers, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz was fully expected to get this game off due to it being an early contest, and because lefty Matt Boyd is scheduled to take the hill for Detroit. In his absence, Sandy Leon will serve as the DH, while Hanley Ramirez moves up to the cleanup spot in the batting order.

Ortiz is expected to receive a day off Thursday, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz has seen the ball well over the last week, but with the Red Sox playing an early afternoon game Thursday and scheduled to face Tigers left-hander Matt Boyd, manager John Farrell will in all likelihood take the opportunity to get his veteran slugger some rest. The Red Sox's starting lineup for Thursday's contest will ultimately determine whether or not Ortiz gets the day off.

Ortiz (shin) is in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, Scott Lauber of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A foul ball off the shin Wednesday provided a very real scare -- Ortiz could not put weight on the leg and required assistance coming off the field -- but X-rays were negative and he won't even end up missing a start. Ortiz is batting .215/.304/.354 since the All-Star break and hasn't gone deep since July 26, but he still ranks first in the AL with a 1.012 OPS for the season.

General manager Dave Dombrowski indicated Wednesday night that Ortiz (shin) has avoided a fracture and is considered day-to-day, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports. However, he is expected to miss the team's series finale against the Yankees on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
This is certainly good news, as the Red Sox have avoided a couple major blows after having both Ortiz and Mookie Betts (calf) exit early. The end result of Ortiz's expected absence could be Aaron HIll joining the lineup Thursday, but it shouldn't cost Big Papi too much action.

Ortiz has been taken for X-rays after he fouled a ball off of his shin in the ninth inning of Thursday's game and needed help off the field, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team doesn't have the results of the X-ray yet, but will likely update the veteran slugger's status when they do. Boston certainly had a bad Wednesday -- announcing three separate injuries -- but the extent of the losses should be revealed in the next few days. If Ortiz were to miss extended time, Hanley Ramirez may be the top candidate to serve as the designated hitter.

Ortiz required assistance leaving the field in the ninth inning after fouling a ball off his right foot, Scott Lauber of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz reportedly couldn't put any weight on the foot, which certainly isn't a good sign. The Red Sox wrap up their series with the Yankees on Thursday but it wouldn't be surprising if Ortiz sits that out at a minimum. Either way, the team should update their star designated hitter's status again in the near future.

Ortiz, who played in the field Saturday and was removed after six innings, received treatment to deal with pain in his feet Sunday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports. Ortiz was not in the lineup for Sunday's finale but did pinch hit during the game.
EDGE Analysis
Boston manager John Farrell gambled that he could get four at-bats out of Ortiz in at least one game of the weekend series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, but it would appear having him play in the field led to an adverse effect on Ortiz's feet. "Went through some pretty heavy treatment to get him to the point where he was available to pinch-hit," Farrell said. "It's his normal maintenance treatment. He was sore this morning when he woke up, which we expected. But everything is at its normal levels right now." Boston has three more games in a National League park -- later this month in San Diego -- so there will be another decision for Farrell to make about using Ortiz in the field.

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. The Boston Herald indicates that he was removed from Saturday's game in the sixth inning due to general stiffness.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz will get another day off after the 40-year-old got the start at first base for the first time this season Saturday. In his absence, Travis Shaw will start at first base and bat cleanup with no designated hitter available against the National League opponent. Ortiz will now prepare to rejoin the lineup Tuesday when Boston hosts the Yankees.
