Ortiz hit a sixth-inning, three-run homer to give Boston a lead it never relinquished in Sunday's 11-8 win over the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
It was a wild day at Rogers Centre as the two teams jockeying for first place in the AL East traded leads and homers and used 18 pitchers. Big Papi's first homer in 10 games provided the winning margin and allowed Boston to leave Toronto with a series win, two games ahead of both the Blue Jays and Orioles.

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
True to his word, manager John Farrell has held Ortiz out for all three games of the interleague set. The Red Sox play exclusively against American League teams the rest of the way.

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell said over the weekend that Ortiz would not start for the entirety of the Red Sox's series with the Padres, so it comes as little surprise that he will sit out Tuesday. Ortiz could be used for a pinch-hit opportunity if needed over the next day or two, but don't expect to see him back in the starting lineup until Friday.

As expected, Ortiz is out of the lineup Monday against the Padres, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz is expected to be limited to pinch-hit duties for the entirety of the three-game series that is taking place in San Diego. Hanley Ramirez will get the nod at first base in Monday's series opener.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said that Ortiz won't play the field during the Red Sox's three-game series with the Padres in San Diego that begins Monday, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
After adding Yoan Moncada to the roster as a September call-up, the Red Sox have more talented bats on hand than at any point this season, so the team's offense should be able to get by just fine in San Diego with Ortiz limited to pinch-hitting duties. Even if he only starts in three of the Red Sox's six games during the upcoming week, Ortiz might still be worth keeping active in deeper leagues with weekly lineup entries.

Ortiz went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI against Oakland on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Why is Big Papi retiring after this season, again? The 40-year-old DH is near the top of the league in most offensive statistics -- first in SLG (.629) and OPS (1.04) - and while hitting in the heart of the top offense in the league can't hurt, most of his peripherals are rock solid, disproving the notion that luck has been much of a factor in his stellar performance this year. The Red Sox will rest him down the stretch when they can, but they'll still need his bat as much as possible while fighting for first in the AL East.

Ortiz didn't start Thursday, but is back in his usual DH spot for Friday's outing. Ortiz has dominated at the plate recently, having gone .440/.481/.880 with three home runs and seven RBI over the last seven days.

Ortiz will get the day off Thursday against the Rays, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ortiz clocked his 30th home run and 100th RBI of the season in Wednesday's loss to Tampa Bay, but he'll be held out of the lineup after starting each of the last six contests. Boston will go with Hanley Ramirez as the DH, while Travis Shaw gets the nod at first base.

Ortiz finished 2-for-5, including his 30th home run of the season, in Wednesday night's 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran slugger started things off right away for the Red Sox, sending a two-run shot to right in the first inning, collecting his 100th RBI of the season and extending his hit streak to 11 games. He now sports a stout .322/.412/.637 line, alongside a 171 wRC+.

Ortiz went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 3-2 victory over the Tigers on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
His back is apparently feeling better. The veteran slugger left Friday's game with some upper back stiffness, but he returned to the lineup Saturday. Ortiz has a seven-game hitting streak and is 5-for-7 with a pair of bombs in this series versus Detroit.
