Aardsma and the Blue Jays agreed to terms on a minor league deal, which includes a spring training invite, Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Aardsma signed on with the Braves midway through last season after opting out of his deal with the Dodgers. He was called up to the majors in early June but would go on to struggle through 33 appearances, posting a 4.28 ERA and 1.272 WHIP across 30.2 innings. Aardsma, 34, seems like somewhat of a longshot to make the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, so could end up beginning the year down in Triple-A.

Aardsma will be called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The 33-year-old Aardsma, who has 306.1 innings of big-league experience, recently opted out of a minor-league contract with the Dodgers. Although he hasn't put together a strong season in the majors since 2009, he has pitched well at the Triple-A level this year, posting a 2.29 ERA and 25:7 K:BB ratio over 19.2 innings. Aardsma will likely serve as a middle reliever, and he could pick up a few holds along the way.

Aardsma signed a minor-league contract with the Braves on Saturday, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. Aardsma, 33, had posted a 2.41 ERA and .176 BAA over his 18.2 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Dodgers organization before he chose to opt out of his contract last week. The Braves would appear to have a more pressing need for bullpen help at the MLB level than the Dodgers, so while Aardsma will initially be deployed at Triple-A Gwinnett, it may not be long before he's added to the active roster.

Aardsma decided to opt out of his minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Thursday and will become a free agent, MLB Trade Rumors reports. Aardsma had a 72-hour window around the June 1 opt-out clause in his contract, and elected to exercise it when the Dodgers failed to add him to their 25-man roster. The 33-year-old shouldn't have trouble latching on with another organization after posting a 2.41 ERA and 11.1 K/9 rate over 18.2 innings while serving as the closer for Triple-A Albuquerque.

Aardsma will throw for interested in teams in Arizona next week with the hope of landing a new contract, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports. Considering how well he was pitching at Triple-A last season, there will likely be a few teams interested in his services on a low-risk deal. Now 33, Aardsma's most recent productive big league season came back in 2010 with Seattle (49:25 K:BB in 49.2 IP, 3.44 ERA, 1.17 WHIP).

Aardsma, who has been out for the last two months following surgery to repair a torn adductor muscle, is expected to begin a rehab assignment by the end of the week, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Prior to succumbing to the groin injury, Aardsma was making a strong case for a promotion to the big leagues, accruing a 0.91 ERA over 28 games with Triple-A Memphis. The veteran reliever has made significant strides in recent days, throwing two live batting practice sessions. It may not take much longer for him to slot back into the Memphis bullpen, and if he reclaims his earlier form quickly, look for him to be added to the St. Louis roster as a September call-up.
