Barney went 2-for-4 with a walk and scored twice in Tuesday's win over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
With Devon Travis sitting out with knuckle soreness, Barney made the most of his rare opportunity to hit leadoff. Tuesday marked the utility man's third multi-hit game in his last four starts, bumping his batting average up four points over that span. Barney's .265/.315/.361 slash line through 249 at-bats this year is up across the board from his career marks of .248/.296/.341. He's having his most productive season since 2013 when he played in 141 games with the Cubs.

Barney is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
The infield core of Devon Travis, Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson has been able to stay healthy since the All-Star break and deny Barney many opportunities around the diamond, but the versatile utility man has been able to stay fresh by seeing semi-regular action in the outfield. While the Blue Jays added Kevin Pillar and Jose Bautista to the DL last week, it hasn't led to extended action for Barney, who will sit for the third day in a row. It looks like he could be forced to occupy the short end of a platoon in left field with recent call-up Darrell Ceciliani, a lefty hitter who has started each of the last three games with the Astros bringing right-handed starting pitchers to the hill.

Barney (0-for-4) made the start at third base Friday while Josh Donaldson played the role of DH.
EDGE Analysis
Barney got the start at the hot corner for the third time in the team's last six games. It's becoming increasingly obvious that Josh Donaldson isn't 100 percent healthy -- he's been dealing with multiple lingering ailments all season -- giving the defensively=skilled Barney continued opportunities to be penciled in the lineup. The story of Barney's season has been all about taking advantage of other's misfortune. He's been a key cog in the Jays infield for most of the year because of injuries. The versatile veteran has made 15-plus starts at second, short and third while getting the nod in the outfield twice and even pitching once (in the 19-inning game against the Indians on July 1). Barney's eligibility at multiple positions makes him a valuable fantasy asset in many formats.

Barney went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs Wednesday against Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Hitting from the leadoff spot, Barney tripled in two runs and brought another home with a sacrifice fly to give him a total of 15 RBI this season. Now that the Jays' infield is healthy, Barney has seen his playing time deteriorate in recent weeks; however, he has made the most of it by hitting safely in eight of his 10 games this month.

Barney played in 64 games during the first half of 2016, slashing .241/.294/.291 in 200 at-bats.
EDGE Analysis
Barney earned one of the team's last roster spots in spring training mainly due to Devon Travis' shoulder injury that sidelined the second baseman for the first two months of 2016. However, a series of events led to Barney becoming an everyday fixture in the Jays' lineup by May. The first domino to fall was Ryan Goins who struggled mightily to begin the season before hitting the DL. That was followed by a lingering ailment to Josh Donaldson, and finally an injury to shortstop Troy Tulowitzki that sent him to the DL, too. The 30-year-old utility infielder has played 15-plus games at second, third and short so far this season. Barney seized the opportunity by outperforming his career averages in batting average, on-base and slugging percentage. He had a stretch of 104 at-bats (from May 1 to June 16) in which his batting average never dipped below .300. However, with Goins due back in the coming weeks and the rest of the guys healthy again, Barney is sure to see a significant decrease in playing time during the second half of the year.

Despite entering the season as the infielder seemingly bound for the minors once Devon Travis returned from the DL, Barney has excelled in his role for the team and no longer is in jeopardy of being optioned off the big league squad.
EDGE Analysis
The evolution of Barney into the Jays' go-to utility man continues. Barney's defense is key coming off the bench, and he even struck a man out coming in to pitch relief in the July 1 marathon against the Indians. But Barney's performance at the plate is what ensures his survival as the fittest option off the bench. And clearly he loves playing in Toronto. The infielder's .343 batting average at the Rogers Centre is highest on the team this season. He's hit in five straight games and has hit .341 with a .911 OPS while hitting ninth in 2016.

Barney went 3-for-8 with a double and surrendered a game-winning solo homer to Carlos Santana over an inning on the mound in Friday's 2-1, 19-inning loss to the Indians. He also notched a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old was the second infielder pressed into emergency pitching duty during the marathon affair, entering the game in the top of the 19th in relief of Ryan Goins. Barney came into Friday in a 1-for-12 slump, and the multi-hit effort he generated was his first since June 17. Despite the recent struggles, his season line remains a solid .292/.341/.391.

Barney is starting at shortstop and batting eighth Thursday against Cleveland, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Barney will make his first start since June 21 as Troy Tulowitzki gets a breather following six consecutive days of game action. Barney has been an effective replacement for Tulowitzki at shortstop, making 13 starts there while slashing .287/.340/.380 this season.

Barney will start at third base and third base and bat ninth in the order Sunday against the Orioles, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Barney saw most of the starts at shortstop while Troy Tulowitzki (quad) was on the DL, but he'll begin to lose out on regular at-bats more frequently with Tulowitzki returning to action Saturday. However, Barney's run of frequent starts will at least live for another day, as he'll spell Josh Donaldson in the field while Donaldson serves a the DH for Sunday's matinee affair.

Barney went 1-for-1 with two walks and a solo shot, his third home run of the season, in Sunday's win over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
He continues to reach base at a remarkable rate, and Barney's .327/.377/.469 slash line on the season seems almost impossible for a player with a sub-.300 career OBP. He's almost certain to return to his usual form at some point, but as long as he's hot the Jays will keep putting him in the lineup.
