Descalso left Saturday's game against St. Louis with left ankle soreness, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso suffered the injury while running the bases in the first inning. It's not yet clear how much time he's expected to miss. Ben Zobrist would likely be the primary second baseman if Descalso is forced to miss time, though Addison Russell could be back with the team soon, pushing Javier Baez from short to second.

EDGE Analysis
Descalso has started against all but two righties this season but hasn't started against any lefties. Ben Zobrist gets the nod at second base.

Descalso is not starting Friday against lefty Robbie Ray and the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso has started against all but two righties this season but has yet to start against a lefty. That trend continues Friday, with Ben Zobrist getting the nod at second base and Mark Zagunis taking Zobrist's typical spot at right field.

Descalso is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Arizona is starting lefty Robbie Ray, so the lefty Descalso will sit this one out with Ben Zobrist sliding over to second base and Albert Almora entering the lineup in center field. Descalso has been a nice addition for the Cubs with a .314/.386/.451 slash line, nine runs scored and nine RBI through 16 games, and he's established himself as the primary second baseman.

Descalso went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI on Wednesday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso was bumped to the seventh spot in the order after batting leadoff Tuesday. However, he still put in a solid effort, recording an RBI single in the second inning before roping a two-RBI double in the third. He appears to be slotted in as the Cubs starting second baseman and is hitting .364/.429/.523 through 49 plate appearances.

Descalso went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double and an RBI in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso had a nice game from the leadoff spot, and the 32-year-old is now sporting an impressive .341 average and .901 OPS. It seems like the veteran has become the regular second baseman for the Cubs, though he could still sit on occasion against left-handed pitchers.

Descalso is not starting Monday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso had been seemingly moving into a more regular role, starting six straight games, but he's since been on the bench for two of the last three. Ben Zobrist moves back in to second base in his absence.

Descalso is starting at second base and batting seventh in Monday's game against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
After starting just twice in the Cubs' first six games of the season, Descalso will now be making his fourth straight start as he seems to be moving into an everyday role with Ben Zobrist seeing more time in the outfield. Descalso is worth keeping an eye on while he's getting this much playing time, though he could hit the bench when a lefty is on the mound for the opponent.

Descalso will start at second base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
The Cubs are moving some players around in their outfield, with Albert Almora headed to the bench, Jason Heyward starting in center and Ben Zobrist starting in right. That opens up second base for Descalso and offers a matchup against Milwaukee righty Zach Davies. In a small sample size of seven plate appearances against righties this season, Descalso sports a 1.548 OPS.

Descalso went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and a second run scored in Friday's 13-10 loss to the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
While the home run was his first of the year, Descalso is off to a fine start at the plate, going 8-for-16 while starting three of the Cubs' first seven games. After setting career highs in home runs (13) and RBI (57) in 2018, the veteran utility player should again feature prominently in Joe Maddon's mix-and-match lineups.
