Gearrin tossed a clean inning of relief while striking out two in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin has been one of the few bright spots for the Giants this season with a 2.11 ERA and an 8.0 K/9 through 55.1 innings. The veteran reliever does, however, own a concerning 4.03 FIP due in large part to his inability to limit free passes (4.7 BB/9). The back end of San Francisco's bullpen is currently set in stone, limiting Gearrin's usage to the middle innings.

Gearrin danced around a pair of baserunners while striking out two batters in Sunday's loss to the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin's scoreless outing lowered his season ERA to 2.30 despite carrying an FIP north of 4.00 for the majority of the season. His mediocre 1.6 K/BB ratio is the biggest red flag, but it is possible that he could continue to keep his ERA low due to his groundball tendencies (1.9 GB/FB ratio) coupled with a stellar defensive infield behind him in San Francisco. Either way, the 31-year-old doesn't provide enough in the important categories for fantasy relievers (strikeouts, saves or holds) to warrant much consideration.

Gearrin tossed a pair of scoreless innings against the Mets on Friday, lowering his ERA to 2.23 despite owning a 4.19 FIP.
EDGE Analysis
The sinker-baller has been avoiding a regression all season despite carrying ratios that indicate one would be coming. That said, his 2.23 ERA is still one of the better marks in the Giants' bullpen, so he should continue to be one of the first righties manager Bruce Bochy turns to out of the 'pen.

Gearrin has struck out 15 and walked 14 in 20.2 innings pitched this season for the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
It's not often you see a player with a WHIP lower than his ERA, but that is exactly where Gearrin sits at this point of 2017. His WHIP of 1.55 is on pace to be the second highest of his career, while his ERA of 1.74 would be a career best. Last season, his first where he spent the majority of a year in the major leagues, Gearrin posted marks of a 1.16 WHIP with a 4.28 ERA, so any expectations for his stats to continue at this rate should probably be tempered.

Gearrin tossed two scoreless innings while striking out four in a 12-4 loss to the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever was called upon to calm a bullpen that surrendered 11 runs, and he did just that with two scoreless frames. Gearrin has provided strong results early on, posting a 1.08 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 8.1 innings. He also has walked eight batters over that span, something he will have to work on if he wants to avoid a huge regression. The Giants have several late-inning righties they rely on, so Gearrin isn't anything more than a middle-relief option at this point.

Gearrin (finger) gave up one run on two hits in his lone inning of work on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin made his first appearance in 12 days, as the 30-year-old was dealing with a broken fingernail on his throwing hand. He posted a 4.28 ERA in 48.1 innings with the Giants last season, but his spot in the bullpen isn't guaranteed heading into the 2017 season. Gearrin still has time to prove himself this spring, but he'll need to improve upon his 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP if he's looking to return San Francisco's bullpen.

Gearrin threw for the first time Friday after missing a week due to a broken fingernail, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin's condition is improving, but it remains unclear when he will be able to return to Cactus League action. After posting a 4.28 ERA in 48.1 innings last season, Gearrin's spot in the San Francisco bullpen shouldn't be considered guaranteed. We'll monitor his status as spring continues.

Gearrin made his third Cactus League appearance Thursday, giving up two runs on two hits in his lone inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin hasn't gotten off to a great start this spring, giving up three runs over three innings. Despite the slow start, there isn't much competition for his bullpen spot and he should make the Opening Day roster. The veteran righty nailed down a few saves last season when the Giants' bullpen was in flux, but the addition of Mark Melancon will keep Gearrin in middle relief for the majority of the season.

Gearrin agreed to a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Giants on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander battled shoulder issues in July and August but returned to San Francisco and finished strong, posting a 1.35 ERA and 13:1 K:BB in September. He racked up 16 holds and three saves in 56 total appearances. Health permitting, the sinkerballer should once again play a prominent role near the back end of the bullpen for the Giants in 2017.

Gearrin picked up the save in Friday's extra-inning win over Arizona. He threw a scoreless inning and struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin converted one of the most unique save opportunities you will ever see Friday. He started the bottom of the 12th on the mound, but was moved to left field while Javier Lopez came in to face a lefty. Gearrin returned to the mound with two runners on and one out and got the job done, capping off a wild win for the Giants. There are two important things to take away from his outing. First, Gearrin earned the first save since Santiago Casilla had been removed as the team's closer. Second, the fact that manager Bruce Bochy went to such great lengths to keep Gearrin in the game shows the confidence he has in the 30-year-old. The Giants announced they would use a closer by committee, so it isn't guaranteed that Gearrin will continue to see save opportunities, but he obviously has the early lead in claiming the role after Friday's win.
