Gearrin picked up his 11th hold of the season after tossing a shutout inning in Wednesday's 7-6 win over Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin has returned to his role as the team's setup man with Santiago Casilla back from paternity leave. He notched his second save of the season this past weekend and should be first in line to see save opportunities should Casilla falter or go down to injury.

Gearrin was called on in a save opportunity Saturday because closer Santiago Casilla (paternity leave) was unavailable.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin converted Saturday's save opportunity, his second of the season, but did give up a homer in the Giants' 6-4 win over the Rays. The right-hander has pitched well of late for San Francisco, having posted 11 straight scoreless appearances before Saturday's outing.

Gearrin has a 2.22 ERA and 0.95 WHIP after pitching 28.1 innings across 30 games this season.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin's success this season can be greatly attributed to his increased control. His walk rate is currently sitting at 6.5 percent, down from his career average of 9.8. Gearrin is 2-0 this season with 10 holds and has been stellar as of late, throwing 10 straight scoreless innings and allowing just three hits in that time.

Gearrin threw a clean inning against the Diamondbacks on Saturday to earn his first save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Before the save vultures rush to the waiver wire to grab Gearrin, we must note that the Giants' regular closer, Santiago Casilla, had throw in three consecutive days and was not going to be used Saturday. Gearrin's early success still needs to be monitored, however, as he has put together a 3.06 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and five holds through 17.2 innings. He doesn't strike out as many batters as Hunter Strickland, but he is used in similarly high-pressure situations, making him a solid source of holds.

Gearrin surrendered two runs over his lone inning of work Wednesday, but still managed to record his fourth hold of season.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin wasn't himself Wednesday, surrendering five fly balls and no grounders after entering the game with a 1.71 GB/FB. Despite the rough outing, he technically held the lead and earned the hold. Gearrin continues to be used in high-pressure situations while Sergio Romo (forearm) and George Kontos (elbow) are on the disabled list.

Gearrin didn't allow a hit while walking one and striking out two in 1.1 innings of work Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
In a game where the Giants' bullpen surrendered four runs, Gearrin was the clear standout. Through 10.1 innings he has posted a 2.61 ERA with two holds. If the rest of San Francisco's middle relievers continue to struggle, then Gearrin should gain manager Bruce Bochy's trust to be used in in the later innings while Sergio Romo (elbow) and George Kontos (elbow) are sidelined.

Gearrin tossed a pair of shutout innings Monday, earning his first hold of the 2016 season.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin has been a revelation early on for the Giants. He has tossed seven shutout innings with a 3:1 K:BB ratio. With Sergio Romo (elbow) out of action, Gearrin could be used in more high-pressure situations and see an uptick in holds.

Gearrin survived the final wave of spring training demotions Sunday, securing a middle relief role on the Opening Day roster, CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
While many were wondering whether Jarrett Parker or Mac Williamson would earn the last spot on the 25-man roster, the Giants opted to go with neither and carry a 13-man bullpen to start the year, opening up a spot for Gearrin. The 29-year-old had a strong season with Triple-A Sacramento in 2015, posting a 2.72 ERA with a 9.6 K/9. His heavy sinker produces a lot of ground balls, and his sweeping slider is used to garner strikeouts. Gearrin will be low on the pecking order in terms of being used in high-pressure situations, so he won't see very many save or hold situations out of the gate.

Gearrin (elbow) was reassigned to minor league camp Tuesday, CSN Bay Area's Amy Gutierrez reports. He continues to rehab from Tommy John surgery that was performed last April, and it would make sense for Gearrin to spend most, if not all of 2015 pitching in the minor leagues.

Gearrin (elbow) signed a minor league contract with the Giants on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. A fourth-round pick in 2007, Gearrin flashed brilliance during his time with Atlanta, but shoulder issues derailed his 2013 season and he missed all of 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. His rehabilitation figures to push at least into May, but the possible reward was worth the minimal risk for San Francisco.
