Gearrin, who allowed a solo home run and also recorded both a walk and a strikeout over two-thirds of an inning against the Rangers on Monday, owns a 5.93 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and .316 BAA over the 13.2 innings covering his last 16 appearances.
EDGE Analysis
The reliever has had trouble stringing together extended stretches of effective pitching over the last month-plus, managing no more than three consecutive scoreless appearances. Gearrin does have a pair of holds over the aforementioned span, but his other previously cited metrics underscore the degree of his inconsistency. The 33-year-old right-hander is likely to have an opportunity to right the ship over the balance of the season, as manager Scott Servais has continued to afford him fairly regular work despite his recent struggles.

Gearrin will serve as the opener for Monday's game against the Astros, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin will likely pitch one or two innings before giving way to left-hander Wade LeBlanc, who is expected to cover the majority of innings Monday. In 26 appearances this season (all in relief), Gearrin owns a 3.22 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 27:13 K:BB in 22.1 innings.

Gearrin has generated six consecutive scoreless appearances to open May and owns an 0-1 record, a 3.63 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and six holds across 17.1 innings this season.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander had his share of hiccups in April, a month in which he posted a 5.59 ERA by allowing at least one earned run in four of 11 appearances. However, he's mostly evened things out in the current month, lowering his ERA from 4.85 on the strength of his aforementioned string of scoreless efforts.

Hunter Strickland is expected to receive an MRI after experiencing shoulder tightness Friday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports, and Gearrin is on the short list of possible replacements for the ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
Anthony Swarzak (shoulder) and Shawn Armstrong (oblique) are hurt too, though Swarzak seems to be inching close to a return. If the M's need someone to step in for Strickland in the interim, it could very well be Gearrin, who split time between three clubs last year. He doesn't throw hard but can throw a pretty wicked slider. The right-hander has leaned on the breaking stuff more often early on this season, to impressive results in the small sample (one hit allowed, one walk, three strikeouts against 10 batters faced). Matt Festa and lefty Roenis Elias could also be in the mix.

Gearrin worked a scoreless seventh inning in a win over the Red Sox on Thursday, recording a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin has gotten his Mariners tenure off to an efficient start, with Thursday's effort the latest example. The veteran reliever needed a quick 13 pitches, nine of which he threw for strikes, to get through his one frame. Gearrin had also worked a scoreless, one-strikeout inning versus the Athletics on Opening Day in Japan on March 20 and should serve as a solid component of the middle-relief corps for manager Scott Servais in 2019.

Gearrin (triceps) signed a one-year contract with the Mariners on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin spent time in three organizations in 2018, producing a 3.77 ERA and a 53:21 K:BB across 57.1 innings of work. He's not a flashy pitcher as his modest strikeout numbers suggest, but he figures to be a staple of the Mariners' bullpen as a middle reliever throughout the season.

Gearrin (triceps) wasn't tendered a contract for the 2019 season.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin appeared in 62 games out of the bullpen for Oakland in 2018 prior to suffering a triceps injury that ended his season. He posted a 3.77 ERA with 53 strikeouts over 57.1 innings over that span.

Gearrin has been unavailable due to a triceps issue, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin hasn't pitched since Sept. 18. He's allowed four runs in six innings since heading to Oakland in late August. The nature and severity of his injury are not yet clear.

Gearrin was traded from the Rangers to the Athletics on Friday in exchange for minor-league pitchers Abdiel Mendoza and Teodoro Ortega.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin was acquired by the Rangers from the Giants in early July and has since posted a 2.53 ERA and 0.89 WHIP over 21.1 innings. The Athletics' stacked bullpen gains another quality arm, as Gearrin is likely to slide into a middle-relief role.

Gearrin (1-0) picked up the win Friday, striking out four over 1.2 innings in a 7-6 extra-inning win over the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
The lone batter to put a ball in play against Gearrin fouled out to the catcher. It was dominating performance by Gearrin, who was unflappable in getting the biggest outs of the game. The former Giant entered in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and struck out Brandon Belt and Evan Longoria. That enabled the Rangers to tie up the game in the ninth inning before winning it in the 10th. Gearrin has pitched effectively since being acquired from the Giants, posting a 2.75 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over 19.2 innings. He's earned his role as a setup man, entrusted to high-leverage appearances.
