Cody Ross (hip) has been playing in minor league games and could begin sliding drills soon. Ross is progressing well and remains on track to make his Cactus League debut on March 13. He's obviously already been ruled out for the Diamondbacks' two games in Australia, but it's sounding like he might not miss too much of April.

Cody Ross (hip) ran the bases on Monday at 60-70 percent. It's the first time he's ran the bases since suffering a fractured and dislocated right hip last August. Ross will play in a simulated minor league game on Tuesday. "We're going to start picking up his activity," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. Ross is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut on March 13 and should come off the DL sometime in April.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Thursday that Cody Ross (hip) is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut on March 13. That's assuming everything continues to go smoothly as the outfielder works his way back from last August's surgery to repair a dislocated hip. The D'Backs haven't officially ruled Ross out for Opening Day, but they'd probably be happen if he made his season debut sometime in April. He hit .278/.331/.413 with eight homers and 38 RBI in an injury-shortened 2013 season.

Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said that Cody Ross took batting practice Monday for the first time since hip surgery and is way ahead of schedule. Towers said back in December that Ross might be out until May, but he suggested Monday that the start of the regular season is still possible. Of course, Opening Day isn't the be-all and end-all and it's worth noting that Arizona starts their season early this year. Ross, 33, hit .278/.331/.413 with eight homers and 38 RBI in 94 games last season.

Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Tuesday that he's hoping to get Cody Ross (hip) back "in April or maybe May." Ross has made encouraging progress from August surgery to repair a dislocated hip and is expected to be cleared to begin running by the end of the month. It was a major procedure, though, so most of his time in spring training will be spent rehabbing. He batted .278/.331/.413 with eight homers for the D'Backs in 2013.

Cody Ross (hip) will resume running at the end of the year. Ross has made encouraging progress from August surgery to repair a dislocated hip and appears poised to be ready to go at the start of spring training. The soon-to-be 33-year-old was limited to just 94 games in 2013 due to injury, batting .278/.331/.413 with eight homers for the D'Backs.

Doctors told Cody Ross following his hip surgery that he could be ready for the start of spring training. Ross won't be able to do any weight-bearing activities for a couple months but should ultimately be fine for the beginning of the 2014 campaign. He'll earn $8.5 million each of the next two seasons.

Cody Ross will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a fracture in his right hip. The operation was expected, and now it's officially been scheduled. It's not clear how long Ross' rehab will be, but he obviously won't return this season. Ross is under contract for $8.5 million in 2014 and 2015.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Monday that Cody Ross is likely to have surgery on his dislocated right hip Tuesday. Gibson wasn't sure about a timetable, but he's just hoping Ross will be ready for spring training next year, so they're obviously not counting on him coming back this season. The outfielder suffered the injury attempting to beat out an infield hit Sunday.

Diamondbacks placed OF Cody Ross on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right hip. Ross suffered the injury attempting to beat out an infield hit Sunday and had to be carted off the field. Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM on Monday that the 32-year-old will likely miss the rest of the season.
