Brad Hand made things interesting ahead of him in the seventh and eight, yet he again set up Allen, who worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to induce a popout, a flyout and a strikeout. The righty blew a save Wednesday but wound up credited with the win, and while Allen has struggled lately while dipping to a 4.28 seasonal ERA, it appears Hand will only steal the occasional save opportunity with a bevvy of lefty hitters due up.

Allen pitched 1.1 scoreless innings en route to a save against the Twins on Tuesday, striking out one while allowing one walk and one hit.

Allen has gone multiple innings in four of his last 12 appearances, and has not allowed a run to score in his last five outings. The 29-year-old is 21-for-23 in save chances with a 4.43 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 50:19 K:BB in 44.2 innings. Allen is sporting a rather inflated ERA due to a few rough outings but he's still a reliable source of saves.

Allen (3-4) was credited with the win in Friday's 8-3 victory over the Tigers, walking one in 1.1 scoreless innings.

EDGE Analysis

He entered the game with one out in the seventh inning and the score knotted 3-3, before the Cleveland offense erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth. This is worrying usage for fantasy GMs with shares in Allen, especially on the heels of Brad Hand picking up the save Wednesday, but as yet manager Terry Francona hasn't publicly suggested Allen's job as closer is in jeopardy -- although in this case, Francona's actions may be speaking louder than his words.

Manager Terry Francona said Friday that Allen will receive a majority of the team's save chances but newly acquired Brad Hand could be utilized out of the closing role depending on situational matchups, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Allen has posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 47 strikeouts across 38.2 innings this year. In addition, he's converted on 20 of his 21 save opportunities and looks secure in his current role at the moment. There's a chance Francona will deploy Hand instead of Allen when certain left-handers come into the box, but in all likelihood Allen will remain the ninth-inning option barring a decrease in his production.

Allen was tagged with the loss Tuesday against the Reds after surrendering six runs in just 0.2 innings, but he's managed to bounce back with two consecutive saves. The 29-year-old right-hander figures to have plenty of chances to lower his 4.66 ERA during the second half of the season, given he's collected 20 saves in 2018.

Allen earned a four-out save Tuesday against the Royals, allowing no runs on two hits while recording one strikeout and one walk.

EDGE Analysis

This was the fifth time this year that Allen has thrown more than an inning to earn a save. The 29-year-old is now 17-for-18 in save chances with a 3.48 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. Allen is holding opponents to a .198 batting average and sports a 40:13 K:BB in 33.2 innings.

Allen retired the only batter he faced without incident as he earned his 15th save of the season Tuesday against the White Sox.

Allen was called upon after Chicago mounted a charge in the ninth inning, scoring two runs on three hits and an error to make it a three-run game. He didn't allow the drama to continue, however, needing just two pitches to end the threat. Allen has tossed scoreless outings in five of his last six, lowering his ERA to 3.86 to go along with a solid 1.12 WHIP.

Allen walked one and struck out one across a scoreless inning Sunday as he picked up save No. 14 on the year against the Twins.

EDGE Analysis

Allen had little trouble slamming the door, as he came in with a 4-1 lead and surrendered just one base runner. After suffering a loss June 9 against the Tigers, Allen has bounced back for two straight saves, and he sits with a 3.90 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 30 innings this season.

Allen struck out three batters while working around a lone base hit to pick up the save in Thursday's 5-2 victory against the White Sox.

EDGE Analysis

Allen allowed a two-out single to Charlie Tilson, who would eventually find himself on third base, but overall it was a clean outing. It hasn't been a pretty June for Allen; he owns an 0-2 record and four saves in his six outings while giving up five runs in just five-plus innings pitched. His ERA has swelled to an unsightly 4.03, but he still has a firm grasp on the closing role in Cleveland.
