Allen (back) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Allen landed on the injured list a week ago with a back injury but is reportedly feeling better already. Depending on how Saturday's mound session goes, it sounds like Allen could be ready to return shortly after first eligible, with Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reporting the veteran right-hander could play as soon as the team's upcoming series in Detroit, which begins Tuesday and runs through Thursday. Allen was removed as closer prior to landing on the shelf, so he figures to assume a setup role upon his return.

Allen was placed on the 10-day injured list with a back injury, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Allen had just been removed from the closer job Wednesday, but the issue now appears to be as much about injury as underperformance. The veteran got through his first five outings of the season without allowing a hit, let alone a run, but he has a 13.50 ERa and a 4.00 WHIP over his last six appearances. The unspecified back injury may be partly to blame for that sudden loss of form. It's not yet clear who is expected to replace him as closer, nor is it clear how much time is expected to miss.

Allen has been removed as the Angels' closer, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Brad Ausmus was not specific in who would replace Allen. He said that they'd use "... some other guys ..." while trying to fix Allen. Allen has a 5.40 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 9:7 K:BB over 8.1 innings.

Allen allowed one hit, a two-run home run to Mitch Haniger, prior to being pulled from Sunday's game against the Mariners without recording an out. After the game, manager Brad Ausmus said he isn't worried about Allen, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Allen was called upon to close out the game, but after allowing the home run was pulled without recording an out. While he was only charged with one earned run, this outing was the latest in a series of struggles for Allen, as he's allowed at least one earned run in four consecutive appearances. For now, he remains the Angels closer.

Allen (0-2) allowed two solo home runs and a walk while failing to record an out in Friday's loss to the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Allen allowed back-to-back homers to Tim Beckham and Omar Narvaez, and this comes on the heels of Allen giving up a run on two hits and a walk in the series opener Thursday. The right-hander got off to a strong start with his new club and he still hasn't blown a save chance, but these recent shaky performances from Allen give setup man Ty Buttrey (0.00 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 12:1 K:BB) added appeal as a speculative pickup.

Allen allowed a run but recorded a four-out save with three strikeouts to post his fourth save of the year in a 6-5 victory against the Cubs on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
That was the first run Allen has allowed all year, and fortunately for him, he entered with a two-run lead. Allen stranded two inherited runners in the eighth and then left two more on in the ninth. Allen is 4-for-4 in save opportunities with a 1.42 ERA, 0.47 WHIP and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

Allen struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his third save of the season in an 11-8 win over the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander is now 3-for-3 in converting save opportunities with a 0.00 ERA and 4:1 K:BB in five innings. Allen is coming off an erratic 2018, but at least for the first couple of weeks of this season, he's providing the Angels with some stability at the back of their bullpen.

Allen worked a perfect ninth inning Monday to record his second save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander got a little bit lucky -- Jesus Aguilar and Yasmani Grandal both hit the ball hard but right at someone -- but Allen still has yet to give up a hit, much less a run, through four innings. Despite the early statistical success, however, his fastball remains subdued at 91-92 mph. While Allen can still generate whiffs with his knuckle-curve, his increasingly hittable heater is likely to cause him problems moving forward.

Allen tossed a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his first save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander's velocity remained unimpressive, as he again sat 91-92 mph with his fastball, but Allen was able to get the job done. The 30-year-old may not be lighting up the radar gun the way he used to, but he'll be locked into ninth-inning duty for the Angels as long as he's reasonably effective.

Allen walked one and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation during Friday's 6-2 win over the A's.
EDGE Analysis
While it's good to see the right-handed finishing games, Allen sat 91-92 mph with his fastball in the outing, a far cry from even last year's 93.5 mph average, much less the 95 he was hitting earlier in his career. It's not unusual for pitchers to need a few outings early in the season to get fully up to speed, but his velocity is worth keeping an eye on as he settles into his closing gig with the Angels.
