Pennington was 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The utility infielder did some damage out of the nine-hole, blasting a second-inning double off Twins starter Ricky Nolasco that plated CJ Cron and Andrelton Simmons. The two-bagger was only the second hit of the season for Pennington, who'd hadn't started a game since Apr. 11 versus Oakland. The 31-year-old figures to continue receiving spot starts throughout the season, but his offensive and fantasy upside is certainly limited.

Pennington is part of an open competition for the Angels' starting second base job this spring, the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnny Giavotella will likely win the job, but manager Mike Scioscia didn't want to anoint him as the starter at the outset of spring training. Pennington is the superior defender, which could ultimately help him make his case for the job if Giavotella scuffles with his glove in the coming weeks. Pennington is a career .245/.313/.344 hitter, so there is little reason to expect him to produce at a significantly better clip at age-31.

Pennington signed a two-year contract with the Angels on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran switch-hitter posted a .579 OPS in 105 games between Toronto and Arizona last season, his worst mark in seven major league seasons. However, Pennington's signing fills a utility need for the Angels, allowing Taylor Featherston to return to Triple-A to play every day.

Pennington is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rays, Sportsnet's Barry Davis reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pennington has been the main beneficiary of Troy Tulowitzki's (shoulder) extended absence, but he's beginning to lose ground on his regular role at second base. If the distribution of starts over the last week offer any indication, it appears manager John Gibbons plans to split the playing time at second base with Pennington and Darwin Barney, which won't do much to aid the value of either player in AL-only formats.

Pennington is not in the lineup Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pennington will get a rare day off, as the Blue Jays go with Munenori Kawasaki at second base against Yankees' starter Luis Severino.

Pennington went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Braves on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
He's now homered twice in his last five games, with seven RBI in that span -- about as hot a streak as you'll see from the generally light-hitting Pennington. Don't count on it to persist, but then again, there might be something in the water in Toronto right now.

Pennington went 2-for-3 with a walk and a RBI in Tuesday's defeat to the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
With Troy Tulowitzki out of the lineup for the next few weeks, the onus will be on Pennington to help pick up the slack. Tuesday was his first multi-hit game since joining the Blue Jays, which isn't altogether surprising considering he came into the game with four hits while on the Blue Jays. Over the past four games, he's 4-for-13 with two walks, showing that he's taking steps in the right direction at the plate.

Pennington went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in Tuesday's extra-inning victory over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Since joining the Blue Jays, Pennington has found at-bats hard to come by and when he has, he's far from made the most of those opportunities. In 13 games, he's 2-for-27 with two runs scored, four walks and nine strikeouts.

Pennington picked up a rare start at shortstop Friday and went 2-for-4 with two RBI, including the game-winning sacrifice fly in the 10th inning. Pennington's first RBI was a big one, too, as he tied the game 3-3 with his sixth-inning RBI single. However, the utilityman's playing time has been sparse, and his fantasy productivity has been even sparser, as he has no homers and just two steals to go with his meager .228 average on the year.
