Pennington started at second and went 2-for-3 with a double in Friday's loss to Boston.
EDGE Analysis
With back-to-back southpaws on the mound, Pennington has seen two consecutive starts and produced two separate two-hit performances. The Angels are facing another lefty on Saturday (David Price), which places the 33-year-old into the lineup for a third consecutive game. While he is on the short side of a platoon at second base with Nick Franklin, Pennington could force himself into a larger role if he can outplay his competition at second base.

Pennington is expected to enter a platoon at second base with Nick Franklin following Danny Espinosa's designation for assignment Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Angels have received limited production from the keystone this season, so they were forced to cut ties with one of the three options they had been deploying there. Pennington was already seeing a couple starts per week in manager Mike Scioscia's previous playing time distribution, so being on the short side of a platoon doesn't move his fantasy value much. That said, with one less dog in the race, the veteran infielder could carve out a bigger role if he can outproduce Franklin, who is experiencing struggles of his own at the dish.

Pennington drew his second consecutive start at second base Friday, going 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in a loss to the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran infielder got another start at the keystone after his three-hit game Thursday. Despite contributing to the box score, Pennington will move back to the bench Saturday in order to get Danny Espinosa back into the lineup. Both players have struggled mightily at the plate this season, so manager Mike Scioscia may choose to play matchups going forward.

Pennington went 2-for-4 in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran utility man notched his first multi-hit effort since May 12 in Monday's loss, snapping an 0-for-8 stretch that had encompassed the last four games in which he'd notched at least one at-bat. Pennington has bounced back after a difficult April in which he hit just .179, as he's now slashing .279/.354/.279 over 48 plate appearances in May.

Pennington started at third and batted ninth against the Rays on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a walk in a 4-0 victory.
EDGE Analysis
With the surprising news of C.J. Cron's demotion to the minors Monday, playing time opened up on the infield for Pennington. The veteran could earn a few extra starts at the hot corner until Yunel Escobar (hamstring) returns from the disabled list. The 32-year-old currently owns a slugging percentage that is equal to his batting average (.271), so a temporary boost in playing time is unlikely to make waves in fantasy circles.

Pennington is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Danny Espinosa will take over at second base against lefty Daniel Norris for the third game of the Angels' series against Detroit. Pennington collected three hits in Friday's contest and has had strong success against right-handed pitching all season, batting .306 with a .701 OPS.

Pennington received another start at second base Thursday, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in a 7-1 loss to Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran infielder has now started three of the Angels' last four games in place of the struggling Danny Espinosa. It is unclear whether manager Mike Scioscia has officially made a chance to his lineup, or if he is just giving his struggling second baseman a mental break. Either way, Pennington's lack of power (zero extra-base hits in 41 plate appearances) keeps him out of the conversation in standard formats, but he could help some deep-league owners as a short-term middle infielder.

Pennington went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
He continues to see sporadic playing time behind a veteran Angels starting infield, and while Pennington has seen action in 12 games this year he's just 5-for-20 at the plate. Barring an injury ahead of him on the depth chart, don't expect the 32-year-old's role to increase any time soon.

Pennington entered Friday's game after Yunel Escobar went down with a non-contact injury. He went 0-for-3 in a loss to Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
It is still unclear what exactly caused Escobar to leave Friday's contest, but Pennington should be the main beneficiary of playing time should the Angels' third baseman miss any time. The 32-year-old has struggled as a backup this season (.182/.357/.182), but with a little bit of pop and speed, he could get some deep-league looks as a middle infielder if Escobar hits the disabled list.

Pennington got a spot-start at short Sunday, going 1-for-3 in a loss to the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Sunday's start was Pennington's first of the season. With neither of the Angels' middle infielders being affected by splits, the veteran infielder will only see starts on scheduled rest days this season.
