Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Red Sox feel a trade for Phillies' left-hander Cliff Lee is "highly unlikely." Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe write Tuesday morning that "every indication" says the Phillies won't settle for anything less than prospect infielder Xander Bogaerts. If the price is going to be that high, the Red Sox will look elsewhere. Brown hears that the Astros' Bud Norris and Jake Peavy of the White Sox are both in play.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox are "still talking" on Jake Peavy, Cliff Lee and Michael Young, "but the price across the board remains too high." It's certainly possible the price will drop before Wednesday's deadline. The Red Sox seem intent on adding at least one big piece, and Peavy is probably much likelier of an option than Lee, who will take multiple prospects plus a heavy salary commitment.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman hears that the asking price for left-hander Cliff Lee is "extremely high." "[Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. is] telling people it'll take you three or four best prospects, plus you'd have to take all the money," a competing executive told Heyman on Monday. Lee, 34, is owed $25 million in 2014, another $25 million in 2015, and he carries a $27.5 million vesting option (or a $12.5 million buyout) for 2016. He seems likely to ultimately stay put in Philadelphia.

Cliff Lee has been scratched from Saturday's start against the Tigers due to a stiff neck. Raul Valdes will draw the emergency start in his place. No word yet on when Lee, who has been an extremely popular name on the trade front, will make his next start.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that multiple teams are making trade offers for Phillies' left-hander Cliff Lee. It's not clear which teams are in the mix, but the Red Sox, Braves, Indians, Cardinals, Pirates, and Dodgers are reportedly looking for starting pitching help. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. wouldn't comment on teams' interest in Lee, but he said that he's keeping an open mind with his players. Lee is still owed $25 million in each of the next two seasons while his contract includes a $27.5 million club option for 2016 and a $12.5 million buyout. He has the ability to block trades to 21 clubs.

Cliff Lee allowed four solo home runs in seven innings in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. Lee allowed only the four runs but gave up nine hits total on the night. And in usual Lee fashion, he also struck out six while walking none. The loss dropped him to 10-3, and the southpaw still owns a 2.86 ERA for the year. The start was his last until after the All-Star break.

Cliff Lee allowed four runs over 6 1/3 innings in a 5-4 win over the Braves on Friday. Lee held the Braves off the board for the first six innings, but he gave up a three-run homer to Dan Uggla and a double to Brian McCann before being pulled in the seventh. Uggla eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly, closing the book on Lee for the night. The southpaw struck out four and walked none in the win and now holds a 2.73 ERA for the year. He'll get the second-place Nationals next week.

Cliff Lee held the Padres to two runs over eight innings, but was stuck with a tough-luck no-decision in San Diego's 4-3, 10-inning win. He struck out seven and walked one. Lee was absolutely dealing through eight shutout innings. He entered the ninth with a 3-0 lead and promptly surrendered hits to the first two batters he faced. Jonathan Papelbon allowed both inherited runners to score, sullying Lee's line. The left-hander remains 9-2 to go with a 2.51 ERA.

Cliff Lee held the Nationals to two runs over eight innings in the Phillies' 4-2 win on Tuesday. It was classic Lee, as he allowed two solo home runs but just five hits total on the evening. He also had nine strikeouts and no walks for the night, moving him to a 98:17 K:BB ratio on the year. The left-hander's name has been mentioned in trade rumors of late, but wherever he pitches he'll continue to be one of the best starters in the game. His next start will come Monday in San Diego.
