Buchholz gave up a run on two hits and zero walks while striking out three in six innings Saturday against the A's, but was saddled with the tough-luck loss.
EDGE Analysis
Daniel Mengden threw a complete game shutout for Oakland, butting a damper on a second straight excellent outing for Buchholz. He has now given up two runs (both on solo home runs) in 11 innings through two starts, but with only five strikeouts over that span, it seems regression is coming for the 33-year-old righty. Buchholz's next start should come Friday at home against the Marlins, which is a great opportunity for him to keep this train of success chugging.

Buchholz will continue to be a part of the starting rotation moving forward and is expected to start Saturday against Oakland, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic Arizona reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz has earned the right to stay in the rotation after a stellar outing Sunday against the Mets. He tossed five innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk although he ultimately ended up taking a no decision. Expect Buchholz to remain a starter at least until either Shelby Miller (elbow) or Robbie Ray (oblique) return from injury.

Buchholz allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out two across five innings as he received the no decision in Sunday's matchup against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz didn't factor into the decision after five solid innings of work -- his lone earned run came off an Amed Rosario home run to lead off the sixth inning. This was just Buchholz's first start of the season and despite a stellar performance, it's unclear how long he'll remain in the major leagues. The 33-year-old was called up from Triple-A Reno ahead of Sunday's game to make a spot start because of injuries to Robbie Ray and Shelby Miller.

Buchholz was called up prior to Sunday's start against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, the Diamondbacks turned to Buchholz as they await the returns of injured starters Robbie Ray (oblique) and Shelby Miller (elbow). Buchholz has posted a 2.93 ERA in 27.2 innings at the Triple-A level so far this year but he hasn't been a useful major-league starter since 2015.

Manager Torey Lovullo announced Buchholz will start against the Mets on Sunday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic Arizona reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz joined Arizona on a minor-league deal in early May after being let go by the Royals, and has a 2.93 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 27.2 innings (five starts) between Double-A and Triple-A this season. Robbie Ray remains on the disabled list with an oblique strain and has no firm timetable for his return, opening the door for the 33-year-old Buchholz.

Buchholz signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz was released by the Royals on Tuesday after posting a 1.13 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with nine strikeouts over 16 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. The 33-year-old struggled with seven walks and two hit batters, but could seemingly seize an opportunity in Arizona with Robbie Ray dealing with an oblique strain and Taijuan Walker undergoing Tommy John surgery last week.

Buchholz was released by the Royals on Tuesday, Maria Torres of The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz pitched well during his time in the organization, allowing just two runs in 16 innings pitched between Double-A and Triple-A. He struggled a bit with command however, walking seven and uncorking two wild pitches in that span. Since the Royals already have five viable big-league starters, the team decided to simply cut ties with the veteran right-hander. His decent performance to start the season may help his case to get a big-league deal, though a minor-league contract seems like a more likely scenario since the season is already a month old.

Buchholz will make another start for Triple-A Omaha on Friday at Colorado Springs, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic Kansas City reports.
EDGE Analysis
There was some speculation earlier in the week that Buchholz would join the Royals to start in Saturday's doubleheader against the White Sox, but the team is instead opting to promote Trevor Oaks. The 33-year-old has allowed only one run over 11 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season, and is nearing a return to major-league readiness, according to manager Ned Yost.

Buchholz was promoted to Triple-A Omaha and started for the affiliate Sunday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Buchholz doesn't currently have a spot on the Royals' 40-man roster, the Sunday start may have been a de facto audition for when the big club requires a sixth starter later this week. Buchholz formed a battery with a rehabbing Salvador Perez (knee), potentially setting the stage for the two to work in tandem for one half of a doubleheader April 28 against the White Sox. Buchholz has had a rough go of things at the major-league level the past two seasons and was limited to just 7.1 innings in 2017 before suffering a torn forearm flexor tendon, but he looks to be healthy after inking a minor-league deal with the Royals in March. The right-hander shined in his first start for Double-A Northwest Arkansas on April 17, covering four scoreless innings and allowing one hit and two walks while striking out five.

Buchholz was sent to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday in order to keep building up his arm, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic Kansas City reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz had been pitching in extended spring training while working his way back from elbow surgery which ended his season after just two starts last year. The Royals have reportedly been pleased with what he's shown so far, but if they don't add him to the big-league roster by May 1, he'll be eligible to opt out. He landed with one of the organizations with the easiest pitching staffs to break into, so he has a legitimate shot to pitch major-league innings this year, but he's had an ERA below 4.78 just once in the past four years, so expectations should be kept quite low.
