Buchholz (oblique) is slated to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz hasn't endured any complications throwing off flat ground since landing on the disabled list June 25, so it appears he's ready to graduate to the next phase of his recovery from the oblique issue. He'll likely need to complete at least two bullpen sessions before facing hitters in a simulated game or live batting practice and then perhaps heading out on a brief minor-league rehab assignment. The 33-year-old seems on track to return from the DL immediately after the All-Star break or shortly thereafter, though Buchholz seems unlikely to recapture a rotation spot if back-end starters Zack Godley and Shelby Miller perform acceptably in their final outings of the first half.

Buchholz (oblique) isn't expected to begin a throwing program until next week, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
That means that Buchholz won't be activated over the weekend when first eligible to return from the disabled list, but there's little to suggest a long-term absence is in play for the right-hander. Buchholz submitted a 2.56 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over seven starts to give stability to the back end of the Arizona rotation, but the recent returns of Shelby Miller and Robbie Ray from the DL may close Buchholz's path to a starting role with the big club.

Buchholz (oblique), who was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday, said he expects to miss close to the minimum amount of time, Glenn Sattell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz exited from his start Sunday against the Pirates with a left oblique strain, but still managed to pick up the win in the outing after spinning five shutout innings. With a 2.56 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through 38.2 frames for Arizona, Buchholz had emerged as a dependable back-end starter, but it's unclear if he'll have a rotation spot waiting for him once he's activated. The Diamondbacks welcome Shelby Miller (elbow) back from the 60-day DL on Monday and will activate Robbie Ray (oblique) to start Wednesday, giving Arizona its ideal five-man rotation for the first time since Miller underwent Tommy John surgery last May.

Buchholz was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a strained left oblique.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz left his last start Sunday with a side injury and was hopeful the setback was minor, but it turns out that is not the case. It's not clear how long he will need to recover from the injury, but it would hardly be surprising if he does not pitch again for the Diamondbacks until after the All-Star break.

Buchholz (left side tightness) will be reevaluated over the next couple days, but thinks he will be fine to make his next start, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. He left Sunday's start after tossing five scoreless innings while striking out five against the Pirates, and ended up getting the win.
EDGE Analysis
He says he has had an oblique problem in the past and said this doesn't feel like that. Of course, given his injury history, it wouldn't be surprising if the tests turned something up, and forced him to miss a few turns in the rotation. Matt Koch would seem like the most likely replacement in the rotation if Buchholz does miss time. For now, Buchholz's fantasy owners can be cautiously optimistic that he will be back on the bump next weekend at home against the Giants.

Buchholz left his Sunday start against the Pirates with side tightness.
EDGE Analysis
Injuries are nothing new for Buchholz, who pitched just 7.1 innings last year before being shut down for elbow surgery. The extent of this particular injury is not yet known.

Buchholz allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three across 5.2 innings Sunday against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz allowed a leadoff double to Brandon Nimmo to begin the game, but managed to scatter only singles from there forward. Though he got only three strikeouts, he managed to keep the ball in the yard thanks to generating a season-best nine groundballs. Overall, it was a nice bounceback effort for Buchholz after he allowed five earned runs in four innings in his previous start. His ability to limit mistakes -- he has allowed 1.1 HR/9 and issued 1.9 BB/9 -- has made him an asset in the ratio stats through 33.2 innings this season.

Buchholz allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over four innings in Tuesday's win over the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz worked out of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the first inning and was staked an 8-0 lead after the third inning but it wasn't enough as he couldn't last long enough to get the win. All the damage came against the 33-year-old in the fourth inning, as he allowed six runs on just three hits in the frame. This was the first subpar start of the year for Buchholz, who'd allowed either one or two runs in his first four outings with his new club. The righty will boast a 3.21 ERA and 1.04 WHIP heading into Sunday's start against the Mets.

Buchholz allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven across six innings Wednesday against the Giants. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz remained sharp, posting his third consecutive start in which he completed at least six innings of work without allowing more than two earned runs. He has been a prolific strike thrower -- he entered Wednesday's start with a 65.7 percent first pitch strike rate -- and began 17 of the 25 batters he faced with a strike in Wednesday's start. While he has flashed other impressive skills, most notably a 21:3 K:BB, Buchholz is likely due for some pushback in his performance as he currently owns a 94.9% strand rate.

Buchholz (1-1) struck out nine and walked one in a win over the Marlins on Friday, giving up one run on six hits in seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
Buchholz was very effective in Friday's contest, allowing only one extra-base hit and throwing 71 of 99 pitches for strikes. Buchholz hasn't allowed more than one run in each of his three starts for Arizona this season, resulting in a 1.50 ERA and 0.67 WHIP to go along with a 14:2 K:BB in 18 innings. The 33-year-old will look to keep things going in his next start against the Giants in San Francisco.
