He hasn't had anywhere that kind of success at the plate this season, as his average is only up to .255 following his performance Thursday. While he should be expected to trend upwards offensively in the coming months, it's not likely he'll match his mark set last season.

Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com reports that the Braves are nearing a contract extension with Chris Johnson. Dierkes says the deal will extend the Braves' control of Johnson beyond his arbitration years. The financials are not yet known. The third baseman is making $4.75 million this season and had been set to hit free agency after the 2016 campaign. Johnson had a career year in 2013 with the Braves, batting .321/.358/.457 with 12 homers and 68 RBI. The timing of the extension is interesting given that he's off to a .231/.260/.330 start this season.

Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored Friday against the Mets. Johnson has had a slow start to the season, but he now has two three-hit games in his last three games. The 29-year-old might not duplicate the .321 batting average he had last season, especially if he continues to strike out at this early pace, but he hits plenty of line drives and uses the whole field. It should help him come pretty close to another .300 season.
