Fien failed to record an out to open the ninth inning in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Angels, giving up four earned runs on two hits and two walks.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old entered the ninth tasked with preserving a comfortable 9-3 lead but promptly yielded a 405-foot solo home run to Albert Pujols to start the frame. He then sandwiched walks to Cliff Pennington and Ben Revere around a C.J. Cron single and was charged with three more runs once Edwin Diaz subsequently allowed that trio to score upon entering the game. Fien endured back-to-back rocky outings against the Angels, as he's also given up two earned runs over two innings versus Los Angeles on Friday night. He yielded a homer in that appearance as well and is sporting an unsightly 14.73 ERA due to his last pair of trips to the mound.

Fien fired a scoreless inning in Monday's 3-0 Opening Day loss to the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever latched on to a roster spot despite a rough spring, but he impressively turned the page in his first outing of the regular season. Fien got through the eighth with a scant eight pitches, with all but one finding the strike zone. The 33-year-old right-hander projects as a serviceable source of holds in 2017 after hitting double digits in that category in three of his past four seasons.

Fien, who fired 1.2 scoreless innings and struck out two in Wednesday's 12-7 Cactus League loss to the Dodgers, is making a strong case for a bullpen spot this spring, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old right-hander doesn't possess the radar-gun popping velocity of his younger bullpen mates, but has racked up a combined nine strikeouts over 5.2 scoreless innings in five of his six Cactus League appearances. Fien's current 4.05 ERA is essentially the byproduct of a three-hit, three-run, two-walk outing against the Angels last Sunday, which he bounced back nicely from in Wednesday's effort. The veteran's chances of securing a bullpen role have gone up significantly with Steve Chisek (hip) not expected to be ready until late April at the earliest and Shae Simmons (forearm) currently without a firm timetable for return to game action. With three straight seasons of double-digit holds in Minnesota from 2013-15 before a rough year with both the Twins and Dodgers last year, Fien has both the track record and multiple impressive performances this spring to have the trust of manager Scott Servais. "He knows how to pitch and how to work his stuff," said Servais. "This guy has had success. He's got Major League time, there's no doubt he's going to help us and it could be in different roles. It could be later in a game, it could be in the middle. I like what I've seen so far."

Fien signed a contract with the Mariners on Saturday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The terms of the deal are not yet known, but the Mariners did clear a 40-man roster spot for him. The 33-year-old struggled to a 5.49 ERA in 39.1 total innings last season between the Twins and Dodgers, allowing a horrific 3.0 home runs per nine innings. He will likely factor in low on the Seattle bullpen depth chart.

Fien has cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, reports Eric Stephen of True Blue LA.
EDGE Analysis
Fien somehow managed to allow 13 home runs in 39.1 innings in posting a 5.49 ERA. Don't expect him back in the big leagues this year.

Fien was designated for assignment on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
With the Dodgers activating Andre Ethier from the 60-day DL on Saturday, they needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, and Fien was the casualty. Fien's numbers would look alright this year if he hadn't given up 13 home runs in 39.1 innings. He'll likely provide organizational depth going forward.

Fien was recalled by the Dodgers on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was in line for a September callup but Fien will return a bit ahead of schedule, replacing Pedro Baez on the active roster. Fien has endured his fair share of struggles between Minnesota and Los Angeles this season and will likely be stuck in the middle innings for the foreseeable future.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Fien would be recalled when rosters expand Sept. 1, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Roberts also mentioned that pitcher Louis Coleman and utility man Austin Barnes would join the big club later this week, but said the club hasn't determined who else will be promoted beyond those players. Fien, who appeared in at least 60 games for the Twins each of the previous three seasons, has languished at the major-league level in 2016, producing a 5.30 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 37.1 innings. The 32-year-old probably won't be asked to fill many high-leverage innings for the Dodgers in September, but he'll still be able to help the team finish out less competitive games when necessary.

Fien was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Fien has struggled mightily with the big club this season. After appearing in 37 games, he's posted a 5.30 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Home runs have hurt Fien all year, as he's given up 12 over just 37.1 innings. Fien will head back to Oklahoma City where he owns a 5.87 ERA and 1.70 WHIP.

The Dodgers activated Fien (elbow) from the disabled list Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Fien is ready to rejoin the Dodgers after throwing four times in the minors and giving up just one earned run over five innings. Expect him to work in middle relief for the big club.
