Fien and the Twins avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.375 million deal Friday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Fien is a bit prone to allowing home runs, but he posted a superb walk rate in 2014 (1.42 BB/9) and managed to improve his velocity from the previous year. He should be one of Minnesota's lead bullpen pitchers in 2015.

The Twins will attempt to rest Fien over the final week and a half of the season, LaVelle Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. After Fien was pelted for two homers in his latest appearance against the Tigers on Monday, the Twins are concerned his massive workload in middle relief has finally caught up to him. He's tossed a total of 144 games and 123.2 innings over the last two seasons, and seems to be showing some fatigue in the second half. Fien would have been a top candidate to fill in for Glen Perkins (neck/shoulder) as closer while he remains out for the next couple of days, but it looks like Jared Burton, Michael Tonkin or Lester Oliveros will be next in line to receive any save opportunities that come about.

Fien gave up back-to-back home runs to Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera in the ninth inning of Monday's loss to Detroit. He was used in the ninth inning with both Glen Perkins and Jared Burton unavailable, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Both Burton and Perkins were unavailable due to some needed rest, so Fien was used in high-leverage situation, though not technically a save situation. Fien's late-season struggles continue as he has a 12.38 ERA (11 ER in 8 IP) since Aug. 24.

Fien (forearm) gave up two runs in an inning in Saturday's loss to the Angels. Fien was hit in the forearm by a ball Friday, but was able to pitch Saturday. Unfortunately the injury may be contributing to his recent struggles, as he's given up nine runs over his last 5.1 innings.

Fien was hit by a line drive in his forearm in Friday's loss to the Angels and left the game after walking the next batter, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "He obviously wasn't throwing the ball right after that," manager Ron Gardenhire said. It sounds like Fien may be out a day or two with a sore forearm.

Fien tossed a scoreless eighth inning during Thursday's game at Kansas City. Fien entered the game with the score tied, so he did not record a hold, but it was nice to see him bounce back from a rough five-run outing Wednesday.

Fien gave up a run while retiring just one batter in Wednesday's loss to Kansas City. He's given up five runs and seven hits in his last 1.1 innings. Fien hadn't given up a run in his nine previous appearances before this poor stretch. He still has a strong 45:9 K:BB ratio in 55 innings, so we wouldn't be too worried.

Fien threw a scoreless inning for his 22nd hold in Sunday's win over Oakland. Fien is having another solid season in Minnesota's setup corps with a 3.27 ERA and 41:8 K:BB ratio in 50.1 innings. He continues to be dominant against right-handed batters with a .576 OPS allowed against righties.

Casey Fien (biceps) is available on Thursday. Fien played catch before the Twins' series finale with the Red Sox and felt fine. He had been on the shelf for a couple of days with a bruise on his right biceps.
